Interdisciplinary Inclinations

Rate this book
It is one of the fastest growing trends in higher education today. But what exactly is interdisciplinarity? And how does it relate to liberal arts learning, the Christian faith, global issues, wicked problems, and student interests?

Many students are told that a practical, specialized major is the best pursuit in college. Interdisciplinary Inclinations challenges this common but limiting mindset, cultivating a more fruitful educational alternative for holistic growth.

I have so much respect for Dr. Davis. This book is a must read for all students curious about interdisciplinarity. It provides helpful and provoking thoughts, ideas, and inspiration for all in the liberal arts.

Representative of the contemporary reduction of the richness of the liberal arts tradition to "interdisciplinary studies." Sure, there's some decent introductory material on the tradition for college students, but it's a very far cry from classical education. Newman refutes this conception very handily in Discourse 6 of the Idea of the University. Liberal education is about forming a specific kind of person, not merely about knowing a wide variety of things.
