Campaign and Service Credits for World War One Service

Rate this book
In addition to giving both the initial campaign credits (that many soldiers used when applying for their victory medals) as well as the official amended campaign and service credits published in War Department General Orders (W.D.G.O.s), this book explains the process for awarding campaign credits and how this changed due to our experiences in WWI. Many historians and collectors are not aware that prior to WWI, battle participation was recognized by engraved silver bands on the flagstaff of unit colors. Our current system of colored campaign streamers is a direct outgrowth of WWI, and the evolution of this system is illustrated with images of original documents as well as numerous photographs from the National Archives.
