Syd Ryan works as a qualified mental health specialist with troubled youth in a teen residential facility. Concussions, aches, pains don’t stop her. Syd works sixteen- hour shifts and her best writing happens after the hours of midnight. Syd is married, and a mother to three boys. Syd holds two college degrees in Nursing and Exercise Science. Stronger is Syd’s debut contemporary romance novel. She read over 300 romance books in her Goodreads challenge last year and a desire to write a novel couldn’t leave her head. Syd developed her love of romance novels watching her mom drinking Coke and reading romance. She rekindled her love of books after reading Fifty Shades of Grey. She enjoys her free time surfing social media, reading books, and being a crazy baseball mom.
ER nurse Jamie has a fear of abandonment and sticks to one-night stands in order to avoid any attachments. After an altercation with some co-workers at her nurses’ station, she’s delegated to anger management classes that happen to be run by hospital therapist and former ONS partner, Gavin. Realizing her time of avoiding him has run out, she commits to keeping her distance since she fears Gavin may be one of few men charming enough to ever break her repeat rule, and that can’t happen. Gavin, however, isn’t convinced it’s over between them.
There’s a change of pace here in regards to romance books: after the ONS between the main characters, the hero (seemingly) remains celibate. The heroine doesn’t. She references that she had more random hook-ups after her night with the hero and even picks up a consistent FB, Chris. Personally, I would’ve preferred dual celibacy, but the change in stereotypes was nice. Too bad I hated everything else about the heroine. She was shallow, superficial, and a bitch to one of the nicest heroes ever written. Gavin was a saint. He had the mouth of an alpha bad boy, but was like Prince Charming otherwise. He took the heroine’s crap and never said a word. He went above and beyond to help and protect her. He was gorgeous, but never arrogant. Even his action that caused the heroine to push him away was selfless and for her benefit. He was a perfect hero and easily the best part of the book.
The plot started off slowly. Besides there being hardly any conflict for a while, the heroine would tirelessly list off what she was wearing or how hot her body was. There was a lot of info about her job as a nurse that wasn’t necessary to the plot, so it became dull. And this is coming from a nurse here. I rarely find that stuff boring, there was just too much of it.
Early in the story, Jamie has a “stalker” and that storyline could’ve taken the book in a promising direction, but it was merely used as a plot device to force the MCs together. It was resolved easily without any conflicts, and once that threat was gone, the story became even duller.
I’d give this book 5 stars if I were only judging the hero, but the slow plot, awkward writing and stilted dialogue, unlikable heroine, and endless format/proofreading errors make it hard for me to rate any higher than 2.5
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love this book!! Gavin really helps Jamie grow and it's a beautiful read. I devoured this book in one sitting, totally bookridden!! Gavin makes an excellent addition to my harem!!
The title of this book alone had me hooked. Worthy is somewhat of a trigger word for me. It's something I personally have struggled with. I loved the first book of this series - Stronger - so I was very eager to get my hands on Worthy. And it was everything I dreamed it would be.
Story Line: Jamie is Regan's (book 1) best friend. They are nurses at the same hospital/department. Regan got her happily ever after in book 1, so now it's Jamie's turn. Except it's not so easy for her. Jamie is full of sass, vinegar and a whole lot of fun. She lives life in overdrive and doesn't plan on settling down. At least, that's what she tells herself. Then Gavin walks back into her life and makes her question pretty much everything. This is a story about letting go of the past and accepting the fact that people who were previously a part of your life, do not define you.
There are a lot of steps that our two love birds need to take in order to get their happily ever after. And for Jamie, step 1 is putting an end to her friends with benefits buddy. Step 2 is getting over the embarrassment of her first encounter with Gavin. It's not easy, and her road to acceptance is long. But Gavin wins a giant trophy for being so incredibly patient and understanding with her. And that scene at the airport/airplane? Pure perfection.
Interaction: Jamie is a spitfire, at that's putting it lightly. I love me some sassy leading ladies, but Jamie? She's on a whole other level with her sassy pants. And then there's Gavin. Sweet, sexy and the patience of a saint, Gavin. He is persistent with her, sure. But he's never overbearing of forceful. It's like he knows exactly what type of treatment his woman needs, before he even truly knows her. This is one of the reasons I love romance novels. Authors like Syd can build a connection between two characters that gives hope to hopeless romantics like myself. And justifies the deep soul connection I feel with my hubby. When the soul connects with it's couterpart, everything clicks and the world becomes crystal clear. That's the connection I am blessed to have with my husband. And that's the connection Gavin and Jamie share.
Laundry: With Jamie being the spitfire she is, it should come as no shock that she is a total wildcat between the sheets. And Gavin? He is totally her match. He ignites a fire within her that is totally matched by his own passion. And I swear to you, with each passing laundry scene, these two only get hotter and hotter.
Depth: Jamie holds the majority of the depth in this story, in my opinion. Her past weighs her down quite a bit and my heart truly hurts for her. She is hiding a secret, even from Regan, that may seem silly to some, but I totally get where she is coming from. Her secret isn't something you go around telling people lightly. But that secret? It makes for one heck of a grand finale. Once you finish this story, if you loved it as much as me, you're going to be craving a strawberry shortcake cupcake, that's for sure.
After reading Stronger, I knew I needed to know more about Jamie, the best friend who was always there when Regan needed her. And she didn't disappoint! In Worthy, we see the roles reversed as Regan becomes the steady one but proud, strong Jamie doesn't want to admit she needs the help. She has secrets she's kept from everyone and these secrets have led her to be weary of those around her. Enter Gavin. Gavin was my favorite part of the book (which surprised me because I thought it was going to be Jamie!) He was soft when she needed him to be and sharp when it warranted it. His tender yet take-no-prisoners attitude made him an absolute stand out! He was relentless and wanted Jamie to know that she deserved MORE, whether she believes it or not. It wasn't easy for them but the journey was amazing. Go read Worthy... You won't regret it!
Jamie hasn’t had an easy life so she kept people at a distance. She didn’t do relationship but would hook up with guys she met. She only hooked up as long as they knew it was one night. She’s working in emergency room and meets Gavin. They end up hooking up but will it stay there? Will Jamie realize she deserves a good guy or will she let her past stop her from having love?
Jamie is determined not to have any relationships, and ensures that her one night stands know this. Gavin is determined to convince Jamie otherwise, and break down the walls she surrounds herself with. This is a wonderful story, which is well written and filled with humour, twists, and romance. I was totally captivated throughout this page turner, and look forward to reading more of this talented authors’ work.
Worthy is a wonderful story about finding love where you least expect it, and accepting that you are worthy of all that love has to offer. Jamie is a spunky heroine, but she's such a broken soul. She keeps everyone at a distance, and only does one-night stands. But Gavin knows that she is worth the wait, and he goes after what he wants, slowly breaking down her walls and proving to Jamie that she is worth more than the baggage that her parents left her with when they abandoned her.
The romance between the two is a slow burn, but once they get there, they are on fire.
I have not read Stronger, the previous book before Worthy, but I did not feel like that took away from my enjoyment of this story.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
I loved the chemistry between these two. With lots of drama and plenty of emotional turmoil, Jamie and Gavin's romance is engaging and enjoyable. A fun story about letting go of the past. This is my totally voluntary, honest review.
wow this book was so touching! her parents left her . so she grew up fast. thats why she doesnt do love or relationships. she meets him and things might just change. a must read for sure!
About finding the unexpected when not expected. About finding yourself and feel you are worthy of what fate brings you. Well written with great storyline and plot. Characters are likeable and well described. Absolutely one I can recommend to others.
This is my first book from this author and it will not be my last. This is the story of Jamie and Gavin. Well written with great storyline and plot. Characters are likeable and well described.

When I met Jamie in Regan’s story Stronger, I knew that her story would be one of humor, heart, and a couple twists. Syd Ryan delivers all this and more in Worthy.
Jamie to me is a perfect heroine. She is spunky, outspoken, caring, and has a vulnerable side that she keeps hidden.
Oh Gavin! I adored Gavin. Gavin knew what he wanted and was not afraid to break down any walls that Jamie put up.
I loved the slow burn of Jamie & Gavin’s relationship. The build up to more was so good and worth the wait!
I can’t wait for more from Syd Ryan. I really hope Rowan gets to tell her story next!
Jamie has lost her barrings, and her life is spinning out of control. Regan, her best friend, knows it's from the ‘one and done,’ with the therapist, Gavin, at the hospital where they both work as nurses. She plays it off like it was the worst night, of her life when talking, to Regan. However, after that date, she becomes completely out of control with her drinking. She is famous for her ‘one and done.’ But after that night that is no more. Somethings changed.
Chris, her drinking buddy is no longer the buddy she calls because she notices he is becoming clingy. When he is supposed to be a game night, drinking, and sleepover buddy. Not anymore. The chick she was going with now isn’t watching her back as Regan did or Chris did. She is doing risky things where she didn't remember the next day.
Gavin keeps trying to connect with Jamie, but she can not figure out her emotions. When you find out her secret she has hidden even from her best friend, you realize there is a reason for that. But, the thing you need to know about, Jamie she is a fierce friend. So, when the mean girls at work go on the attack towards, Regan, Jamie goes into attack mode verbally. One setback, having it out at the nurse's station in front of your supervisor. Can you say, ‘anger management class?’ Guess who will be running them? All six.
This is such a good series. Gavin is the perfect man for, Jamie. Although I love, Chris he was not the man for the job. He just wasn't ready for the full impact that comes at the end.
Read For Author: Bravo Syn Ryan! This book was excellent - it left me an emotional mess! I couldn't put it down I actually carried my Kindle around reading it. I couldn't stop. Face it we have all felt unworthy at times. Jamie has worked since she was 18 to overcome her childhood or at least hide it - she has a one and done rule when it comes to men but she wasn't expecting the likes of Gavin is determined to have her. They had one night together that didn't go very well and they both took away something very different. Can Gavin make Jamie feel like she is Worthy of love and a life she deserves this book is so worth the read it will take your breath away.
This is a really emotional story. Jamie didn't have the best past so she's keeps walls up and lets her past continue to control her life now. She never expects Gavin, who was supposed to just be a one night stand, to break down her walls or for him to have such an impact on her life! Jamie is sassy, independent and take charge and Gavin is her perfect counterpart, they bring out the best in each other. Their road isn't an easy one but if they want their HEA, then they're gonna have to fight for it! Gavin is definitely book boyfriend material!
The author of this book is a nurse who is very into her fashion, not ashamed to over-inform her reader which makes this book slightly harder to read as it kind of feels like a high school comprehension assignment where the reader is picking out the relevant information while discarding the rest. The language can be very stilted, making the book more of a challenge to read. That being said, this is a newly published author and Ryan has a great story to tell that's well worth the read.
I had a really hard time with this one...I didnt connect with the characters at all and I didnt even feel like the characters were connected...the relationship seemed more like that of an acquaintance then anything else...I thing the heroines names was completely over used which made it hard for me...its one of the few books I tried to rush through reading...
