Arriving in Texas to claim ownership of the Horsehead Ranch, Tracy Coleman discovers that the neighboring rancher has laid claim to the land and has put a bounty on Coleman's head for rounding up cattle that are rightfully his
Action By Night (1942) is the first Ernest Haycox novel I’ve read in a couple years. The strengths are here, and “action by night” itself is one of the common denominators in his westerns, but this is awfully talky after awhile. Tracy Coleman comes to the Basin to defend the property of Horsehead ranch for an absentee owner in Texas. But evil cattle baron Dan Stuart fights him tooth and nail. He has to choose between two women, and picks the more wholesome of the two.
Was confusing at first and then I got into it for a little while, about halfway through the book it dragged on. That it was going to be very interesting but did way too much for me. Crazy and dumb storyline for me. I read a lot of westerns and this was just a little too much. First book I read with this author.
