Time and Time Again and Other Sf

John W. Campbell was a man who really knew what makes SF the appealing thing it is; it's no wonder that he published the story. Also included in this volume are "The Mercenaries" ( Astounding Science Fiction, March, 1950), "He Walked Around the Horses" ( Astounding Science Fiction, April 1948), "The Return" ( Astounding Science Fiction, January, 1954 -- a collaboration with John J. McGuire), and "Temple Trouble" ( Astounding Science Fiction, April, 1951).

Goodreads has decided that the titular story alone doesn't qualify as a book and blocked its rating and review. Letting people who actually read decide what qualifies as a book or not would make more sense. But the woke progressives at GR, who insist that a woman is whomever says they’re a woman and that gender is on a spectrum, are absolutists as to what constitutes a “book”.
As for the book it’s very interesting in its premise and exposition, but kind of lame in its scientific perspicacity. To wit, the past and future have nothing to do with time per se as they are only configurational, whereas time is temporal i.e. clocklike and inextricably linked to process though not linked to “Earthtime” since such a concept is a mere illusion due to a priori seasonality and nychthemeron. Yes, that means it just gets light and dark, hot and cold ad hoc. Surprise! 🤣

Product Description

When they published the title story of this collection in April 1947, Astounding Science Fiction said, "To upset the stable, mighty stream of time would probably take an enormous concentration of energy. And it's not to be expected that a man would get a second chance at life. But an atomic might accomplish both --" John W. Campbell was a man who really knew what makes SF the appealing thing it is; it's no wonder that he published the story. Also included in this volume are "The Mercenaries" (_Astounding Science Fiction,_ March, 1950), "He Walked Around the Horses" (_Astounding Science Fiction,_ April 1948), "The Return" (_Astounding Science Fiction,_ January, 1954 -- a collaboration with John J.
