Like Ogura Muku writes in the afterword - having read 春へ and knowing there is a second volume to this feels different than what the people having read this when it was published for the first time must have felt like. I obviously don't know for certain whether I still would have liked it. Asaoka Modoru writes that this is still a happy ending for her, and I don't disagree. It is a very important story in that sense, it makes you treasure the time you spent with the people you love, no matter the outcome.
Still, a part of me always really dislikes endings in BL where they're not together in the end. So in a way I can 100% appreciate this as a good novel, but as a BL reader I would be disappointed if it ended here, I guess. But it doesn't, and I am curious to see how the second volume will wrap things up.
