The Sittingbourne and Milton Regis

A convenient stop for Canterbury pilgrims, Sittingbourne grew to incorporate the neighbouring parishes of Milton Regis and Murston. Access to the river supported local paper, brick and cement manufacture and the port became a centre for the building of Thames sailing barges in the 19th century. This local history includes reminiscences of the town from before the major redevelopments of the 1970s.
