British Royals #2

Loving Katharine

Rate this book
When Britain’s crown princess Katharine came out of the closet and ran off with one of her security officers, they knew they were destined for a fling, not for true romance. They would take what they could get in the little time they had together and resume their separate lives.
Except Katharine is queen a mere three months after they parted, and her former lover has been summoned to her side. What about the feelings that deepened in Puerto Rico? Can the two women make a go of an actual relationship?
Maybe. Maybe not. Plus, some things are not what they seem. Namely, Katharine’s youngest sister, Emma, is struggling with her own sexuality. Secrets and fear run deep, and they imperil the chances of a happily ever after.

I’m back to one of my favorite authors Q. Kelly, who is not always getting the amount of kudos she deserves. I’ve read 18 of her books now and she always makes me squirm or go what?!!… or both and you know what? I love it!

Loving Katharine continues the story of Katherine (now the British Queen) and her former security woman Veronica Dudley. There is also more of Katharine’s youngest sister Emma in this one, but that makes sense because book three will be about her.

The pov shifts per chapter between the many people involved (like in the first book) and it jumps back and forth in time, but it is cleverly done and creates the necessary suspense (because Q. Kelly delights in making her readers uneasy). So we not only have the voices of Katharine and Veronica, but also Veronica’s children Jo and Lucas, Leigh Ashley who is Katharine’s friend (or is she?), Queen Amalia Katharine’s mother and quite a bit of Emma.

So without spelling it all out for you it’s basically about what happened after Katharine and Veronica came back from their romantic stay in Puerto Rico, the King’s sudden death and what that means for Katharine, Veronica’s child wish, of duty and lost opportunities, of the time not right for both of them to be together and a children’s plot to change their mother’s life for the better.

Book Club Buddie D. and I had a great time hoping for this Royal love affair to work out. The author did not throw me under the bus as I feared and good times were had by all!

f/f explicit

Themes: Katharine and Veronica through the years, hook-ups, conversion therapy in all its ugliness, there is no room for two gays in the Royal family… or is there? I came to love Veronica much better in this book, I guess I am over the shock.

I think I am hooked by Q. Kelly’s second in this series.

The second in this series is better than the first, and I was unsure how I felt about it. Now the second has filled in quite a few of the blanks. The characters are definitely growing on me. The issues are being clarified and rectified strengthening the story. I am looking forward to book three in the series. Coming out for many of us is dreadfully stressful, for an individual constantly in the public eye it is far far worse. This series deals with the family pressures along with pressure of royalty. I say well done, Q. Kelly.

Oh man... the ache, the longing and the end... better yet, the new beginning. I can't wait to read more about the Queen, her consort and the rest of the family. Loving this series. Onto the next book!

ah, sweet

This was a hard fought battle. Loved the look at what Katharine went through in her teens. Loved seeing her strength through everything. Veronica is no slouch in the strength department either. Really enjoyed this story!
