This catalogue is a wonderful reminder of the treasures that were shown at the 1989 Taonga Maori art exhibition. This exhibition gained great acclaim during its tour of New Zealand as well as overseas. The book is lavishly illustrated in both full colour and black and white, with extended captions and essays. An exciting look into Maori culture.
Great color photos (plus black and white versions) and great sayings and poetry in the Maori language. For an art historian, the book by Barrow is more substantial. For someone interested in an introduction to the Maori culture, this is excellent (although occasionally a little pedantic). I'd recommend it to anyone planning to visit New Zealand.
