...Are there any Kindle Unlimited books like Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, and Jack Ryan that deserve a spot on my Kindle? Yes. Yes there are...

...A fast-paced action adventure series that only left me wanting more...

Just when you think it's over...With new identities and a new lease on life, DJ and Abbi are finally settling into a peaceful existence. They quickly learn that your past can always come back to haunt you.

Who is this new enemy? The only way to overcome the threat is with a team. Old friends are reunited. New ones are found. But it's not enough. Someone knows their secret. Someone is talking. Who is the wolf that prowls through their midst?

DJ and the crew are in deeper than ever, and the one they need to outmaneuver is someone they know. This series takes the genre in a different direction. See why fans are flocking to Slaughter.

...Pretty much has it all. Suspense, mystery, loads of action, and an antihero you want for a next-door neighbor......Pretty much has it all. Suspense, mystery, loads of action, and an antihero you want for a next-door neighbor......My new favorite hero...

...I assumed this hero was going to be like all the rest. I was WRONG! It reads like a John Wick movie at times. And it is obvious the author knows his guns and his combat. No more unrealistic firearms or gun battles where there is an endless supply of ammunition. Our vigilante justice warrior even has the discipline to count his shots as they are being fired. I have never seen that before. And, there's a whole lot more in this series you haven't seen before. It's like the author tossed the genre on its head and came up with something else.

James is a thriller writer with influences from Clancy, Flynn, Child, and others. He's been featured in articles for Recoil Magazine and Off-Grid. Recoil listed him featured him in an article entitled: "Best Selling Authors Who Get It Right." High praise indeed.

Born and raised in Louisiana, but currently residing in Oklahoma, James draws from his southern roots in his storytelling, creating a protagonist that is quiet and reserved, drawing on a commonsense approach to crime-fighting. The DJ Slaughter character, for example, is easily relatable. You know who he is pretty quick and can see yourself in his struggles. In a world of over-the-top heroes, James is a breath of fresh air.

James continues to write his popular DJ Slaughter series but is rumored to be secretly working on something exciting and new in the background. We can't wait to see what he's cooked up for us all.

Wonderful second in series of people who do what ever is needed to keep everyone safe!

I really loved this story, I feel as if the characters are real people I know!
The story continues with high action and thrilling plots as DJ Slaughter and his real friends from the FBI try to be rid of some highly paid assassins. The twists will keep you engaged as the crew we have come to know try to end any problems so all may live a life without constant fear.
The author has done an amazing job building the characters so we love some even though they use their gun skills to stop enemies. The group with Slaughter have different skills, but are a group doing their best to keep the country from trouble.
I am wholeheartedly in this series and cannot wait for the next book!!

I actually got this from Audible on audio so when that edition shows up I guess I'll change to it. I've added a few editions to books but it never seems to go well for me...

Anyway, this is the second Slaughter book and it's a good read. I am "bound to say" (a phrase I used to hear a lot but not so much anymore) that the first was better.

Here we still have an interesting story with enough action to call it an action read and a good plot. The characters are still here but there is one flaw that did bug me a bit.

Now before I go on about it, we are warned up front that our "primary protagonist" has this weakness. Still it drove me up any and all nearby walls as I read the book. Telling you this is not a spoiler. To wit, the primary protagonist completely looses his mind, I mean completely loses his s**t whenever the subordinate second protagonist is threatened. In other words whenever the love interest is threatened D.J. goes completely bonkers looking for a grenade to fling himself atop of a bullet to take "for her". He seems obsessed to the point of endangering not only himself but her, their, allies, their friends, all innocent by standers and small animals nearby... He just can't think. Even when Abby reads him the riot act and tells him she will be part of the solution and will go after the killer, he still continues to lose it.

sigh.

Also...and I'm sorry to say this, the book is a little over long. Too much verbiage and somewhat long winded discussions and scene set-ups. At one point someone was "getting away" and my though was, "sheesh by the time you got through describing the scene and events he could be in the next state.

Oh well, that was the sulfur. The molasses is that it's on the whole a good read and I do plan to follow the series. I do recommend it, especially to those who like action thrillers. Really overall a good read...recommended, enjoy.

Notes:
Both the book & audio need a few editing/proofreads to catch obvious mistakes. Otherwise, solid fun + mayhem. Just don't expect everything to make sense. Like an action movie with lots of ridiculous kabooms.

Books two starts out where one leaves off and the only chance you have to breath is while this book is downloading. If you read the first book, you are absolutely going to love this one, but you do not need to have read it to enjoy Book #2. The action does not stop. Is it vigilantism or justice. You decide. DJ Slaughter is former military and watched his entire family get murdered. In book one, he is just trying to be left alone, but his love of guns, led him into a scam with a mob boss's son. In the process he ran into Abbi, whose father was killed saving DJ's life. What a team they would make! He also connects with an FBI agent who understands his need for justice. In this book the crime boss has a son we didn't know about, but he is a bit player. The main problem is the contract killer whose identity he had used to take out the crime boss. Bullets fly in this one and bad guys end up dead, but there are plenty of surprises too.

Fabulous!

This second part of the Slaughter series is just as action-packed as the first, as it picks up where DJ Slaughter and his crew leave off from Slaughter: Origin. The author does a great job keeping you up late, biting your nails, as you lie to yourself, saying, "OK, just one more chapter..."

I'm not one to give away spoilers. I CAN say that the character development continues, the protagonist is true to himself, and the plot thickens to the right consistency.

I can easily see this being a best-selling series. The best part? The author doesn't even use ONE single curse word or sex scene, because the story is so good (and characters so believable) that it doesn't need it!

There's plenty of blood, but if you aren't scared of a few bullet holes, this is one of the best series you will read.

Faster than a speeding bullet!!

This the second Slaughter book I've read and it doesn't disappoint! Lots of action, lots of tension, lots of derring-do! And, yes, sometimes it's a little over the top, but then you get to the next gunfight and decide it really doesn't matter, because you're hooked already!

The only criticism I have is purely technical. A good editor is seriously needed. There are too many grammatical errors, typos, incorrect verbs, wrong tense, etc. A really good editor would catch these mistakes before they reach print. This would keep things moving along more smoothly.

But overall, this is pure entertainment that has kept me up til 1:30 a couple of evenings. I kept saying i'd stop at the end of the chapter, then I'd find myself three paragraphs into the next chapter!!

Good reads!

Amazing

I rarely start a series because I don't want to have to buy more, however, I was hooked when I started the first book. The attention to details by this author took you straight Into gun fights, chases and anxieties. I rooted for the good guys and felt anger towards the bad ones. Poor DJ went through more than anyone should have to but he just kept going. I have never written a review before but in this case I had no choice. This book should be read by any gun enthusiasts, action seekers or just plain avid readers. I highly recommend taking this journey. Thank you Mr. Belts.

Enthralled

It has been a long time I have been so thoroughly enthralled with a book! I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! James Belts has written a COMPLETE book. Characters so real and well-developed that I think I might know or at least have met them. DJ and Abbi never give up -always looking to solve the problems and put all the puzzle pieces together, accepting that the good guys have to slog through the muck (literally sometimes) to get the bad guys. Don't think you have it figured out as the plot has more twists, turns, and switchback than you can anticipate.
I give it five stars only because I cannot give it more.

Another good book in the series but too much romance at the wrong times.

I still enjoy the over the top action in the book, what I don’t like is that slaughter seems like a jerk. I also don’t like the fact that he seems to be very gun oriented and not enough hand to hand combat training. I also don’t like the fact that romance comes up between him and Abby during inappropriate times i.e. the middle of a fight. I wish this book had been more balanced, more fighting and action and less romance and character development. Like I said a good series I am going on to read the next book.

Book 2 starts right where book 1 ends. DJ is a likable and relatble hero, but he does have a particular set of skills. He was hoping to not have to use them again, but danger finds him, his girlfriend, and her mom. DJ very proficient with a hand gun, but he is not at all comfortable with emotions. But that's something he will have to get a handle in this book.

James is excellent at describing the weapons in his books. But he weaves it into the action you never feel like you are reading a gun catalog or owners manual.

Must read. Better than book 1

This book had me on the edge of my seat and waiting to see what happened next. I love that I am getting to read from a new author and helping him along. But more importantly I love his writing. I already downloaded the short story and can't wait for book 3. This book is better than book 1 and I don't say that too often. Give this new author a try because you will be sitting on the edge of your seat with anticipation.

FANTASTIC READ!😁

Found this second book in this series to be a great set-up for the series. There isn't much of a plot in the sense that it was expected, except the end, and then all I wanted to do was to continue to read. Now I have great expectations with creative, diverse plots and more character development! I have seen the beginnings of another Child or Baldacci with a technically toned down early Clancy. Don't let me down!

I use ratings to decide which books I am going to buy, and I recently decided I am partially responsible for inflating the ratings on books. Either they were 5 star or 1 star. I decided to use the star rating more objectively as follows:

★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will).
★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this.
★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad.
★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time?
★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.

Slaughter:White Out

What a great combination of characters, plot, suspense and drama that created a book I found very entertaining and hard to put down. The author has created a great platform to introduce an action picked series. I look forward with anticipation for any future works featuring these powerful characters

I love the character of DJ. But it would be good to see that he has weaknesses too. Let us see him cock up for change. It is human to err we are told. Let him show us.
Other characters now need to be more fully developed. Let's see more of Abbi and Brett.
I like where the series is going. Keep it up.

Thomas would handle this himself using a well-placed shot from a fifty-caliber sniper rifle from a quarters of a mile away.

He did so now, shoving the earpiece in and switching the thing on. Why was it even turned off to begin with, he wondered? [he stole the radio earlier from the elevator guys,,,]

Thanks!!

Thank you Mr. Beltz for being an intelligent writer that uses no profanity. This story was good but not as good as the first. It got bogged down on the Shark man too much in my opinion. Still a 5 star though.

Decent read but did not blow me out of the water. DJ is an ex-medic who has experienced many personal setbacks but now he has become Jack Reacher on steroids. Some of the action that takes place in the book you are like " RIGHT ".

Slaughter is great

This series is well written and entertaining. It shows promise of building into a series which can compete with Clancy, Thor and Sanford. Looking forward to the next book.

Not a fan of the narration, and I just couldn't get into the writing. Way too much righteousness "oh poor DJ". Looking back I enjoyed the first in this series but just couldn't get through the cheese of this one.
