More in Common Than You Think: The Bridge Between Islam & Christianity

Rate this book
William W. Baker, a well-traveled Christian theologian and Biblical archeologist, has released an important work that is timely and pertinent to advancing human understanding and tolerance by shattering stereotypes and misconceptions that have often arisen between followers of the world's two largest monotheistic faiths, Christianity and Islam. In this clear and concise text, Baker introduces laypersons to the great religion of Islam, which now has some 1.2 billion adherents and is the fastest-growing religion in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Baker's central theme throughout “More in Common Than You Think” is mapping the common ground between Islam and Christianity.

This book was written only for the purpose of presenting the similarities between Christianity and Islam (and to promote the author’s project “CAMP”). I was hoping for a more balanced comparison of the religions instead of what was done… only cherry picking the scriptural lines that are similar.

Each chapter in summary: “Here is the way many people view Islam, but look this verse from the Quran says that is wrong and also I have Muslim friends who are nice to me.”
I’m sure someone could write a book that’s the exact opposite: “here’s a verse that makes Islam look horrible and also I have been mistreated by Muslim people before sometimes.”

This book isn’t going to change the world, it just wasn’t compiled effectively enough to do that.
Definitely not a keeper.

Beware. The author Bill Baker was a leader in the neo-Nazi Populist Party founded by holocaust denier Willis Carto. In fact, he was national chairman. Baker record of antisemitism is well known. Unfortunately, some Muslim student groups have given him a platform.

The information in this book is very questionable.

A bit outdated as it predates 911, this is still a pretty good primer on the basics of Islam. It's a quick read intended for Christians who don't know much about Islam.
