The prolific Meriol Trevor, BA, FRSL was a writer of novels, biographies, and children's books. A convert to Roman Catholicism, Trevor wrote a two-volume biography of John Henry Newman (The Pillar of the Cloud and Light in Winter) which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1962.
Dense and full of tangents into various players, as well as an enormous number of names and movements to keep track of and weigh their various intentions and machinations against one another, but fascinating and really gave me an appreciation for John Henry Newman, as well as a much more clear view of the sociopolitical situation facing the Church in Europe in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Excellent and thorough bibliography for further reading and research.
