Ex-con Paul Manson fails to warn Philomena Wise of a murder plot against her, and when she is murdered he becomes the chief suspect, a situation complicated by the dead Philomena not being the Philomena that Paul knew
Roger Ormerod was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. He worked as a county court officer, an executive officer in the Department of Social Security, a postman, and a shop loader in an engineering factory.
Farewell Gesture has a modestly interesting beginning. The book continues to be interesting until too many characters are introduced, and Ormerod loses control of them and the story. This is typical of the Ormerod books I've read. There's a skeleton of a plot which is made flabby by too many characters who don't know what their role is. The result is lethally boring conversations, where characters, lacking guidance, seem to just make up things to say to each other.
