Mad scientists, evil mercenaries, and a genetically modified dog. We thought we had survived it all… but the worse was still to come.
Two weeks have passed since Sully and Sam were married, but instead of the happiness they expected when they returned from honeymoon, they found the unimaginable sitting on the couch.
Before any of us could understand what was happening, we were attacked by a shadowy offshoot of the government, but unlike Forbes’ men who had wanted Bandit alive, these were sent to wipe us out. To clean us from existence.
With nothing but the clothes on our back, we fled across the country, our enemy hot on our heels, to the only friend who might be able to help us… when disaster struck.
Driven insane by grief, one of us goes to strike a terrible deal with the enemy that would defy all laws of nature and bring everything crashing down around us. As the others raced to stop them from making a devastating mistake, I headed off to implement a desperate plan of my own - one which would either save us from being hunted, forever… or get us all killed.
A proud geek and video gamer, and champion of complex female protagonists, Jo brings her page-turning screenwriting style to books to weave well-crafted, suspenseful stories with twists you don't see coming. She writes YA books under Jo Ho and adult romance books under Joanne Ho - most of them featuring dogs!
A self-taught screenwriter, Jo's writing life began when she created the groundbreaking, critically acclaimed CBBC action fantasy television series, "Spirit Warriors," which introduced leading actress, Jessica Henwick ("Game of Thrones," "Star Wars: The Force Awakes") to the screen. Granted the biggest budget ever given to a CBBC show at the time, it was nominated for "Best Children's Programme" at the 2011 Broadcast Awards, with Jo herself, going on to win the Women in Film & Television's "New Talent" Award in 2010. Jo even made history for being the first East Asian person - man or woman - to have created a British television drama series.
Since then, Jo has worked with some of the most acclaimed producers in the world with several television shows and movies currently in development, she also writes for games. When she isn't working on her own stories, Jo helps others with their work - she is one of the BFI's (British Film Institute) recommended script consultants.
Jo suffers from MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities), a debilitating condition she has developed over the last few years which has left her mostly housebound. Unfortunately, it is still not officially recognized in the UK despite the World Health Organisation listing it as a physical disability. There is currently no help for sufferers of MCS in the UK. Unable to travel or attend meetings and writersrooms, she has lost many screenwriting opportunities but has refused to allow the condition to rule her life. Despite the wrench life has thrown at her, Jo started to write and publish books.
Her debut novel WANTED, Book 1 of the Chase Ryder series has been a bestseller in 15 YA categories. It also won top prize in the YA Sci-Fi category for the 2018 Readers' Favorite Book Awards. It is her dream to bring all of her book series to screen and she believes she can make it happen with her readers' help!
Jo lives in London and hopes to travel across America one day in a super kitted out, MCS-friendly, Zombie-apocalypse-ready RV with her lovely fella Matt, and three equally lovely kitties.
What a super conclusion to a really great set of books.
After the somewhat slow beginning to book 2, I was made to eat my words with the explosive start to this book. Right from the off things are looking bad when Sully and Sam return from their honeymoon and discover an uninvited guest. This guest is a magnet for bad things which start to happen almost immediately, and leave the group in a situation that is even more perilous than before. As time passes by, it becomes apparent that they will all need to pull together before they pull each other apart.
Things aren't all doom and gloom. As with the other two books, Jo Ho has nailed it with making Bandit an extremely believable and likeable lead character. There are some great images of his and the groups exploits and the whole troupe are portrayed in such a way that the whole chemistry, whether good or bad, is instantly familiar to readers who have read the other books. You really do feel like you are sharing in their adventures, and you get to care about them all. There are some surprising mentions in this book too, and the idea of a live or die situation incorporating pop culture was total genius.
I enjoyed every minute of this book, and recommend this series to animal lovers and people who like imaginative, out of the box fiction that is both tense and heartwarming.
What a cracking end to an excellent trilogy. I couldn’t have wished for better. This is one hell of a writer. Looking forward to see what’s next. If you liked the first two you’ll love this. Highly recommended.

Summary: This series had it all from mad scientists, a fight to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds, and the love between a young woman for her dog Bandit. Now Bandit isn’t your average dog. He was genetically altered to have human intelligence, but that doesn’t change chase’s love for him. Hunted by the government, they stay together until tragedy strikes leaving them reeling from the loss. Decisions are made, but the cost is high as grief takes its toil fracturing the family. Can they survive and what will the cost be?
This is an incredible and riveting series taking the reader on their struggle to survive. Chase’s love for Bandit took her from the streets to having a family and in spite of the cost they somehow managed to stay together. I loved this series and it was made that much better to experience it in audiobook format. The narrator brought each character’s unique personality alive for the listeners enjoyment.
Oh wow you had better hold on tight for this amazing roller coaster of a rider. Warning tissues will be needed, well I needed them anyway, mainly because I got so attached to the characters I couldn't help but tear up. This is a great conclusion to a three book series, well could have done without one bit (still wiping my eyes now) but all three books are excellent and follow on from each other so I would highly recommend that you start with book one and enjoy. I liked the characters and the author cleverly writes in such a way that it is easy to imagine them and you feel what each one is going through. I also liked the way you never know what is going to happen to them next, I certainly didn't see a few things coming in this book. The story is told by a number if characters so you don't miss out on any of the action. With all the break throughs the world is making today the plot line somehow doesn't seem so far fetched. Definitely a book you need to lock your doors and enjoy, I even got my mum hooked on the series. When Sam and Sully return home from there honeymoon it is not quite what they expected. They have a very unexpected guest for one and a very unwelcome one for the other sitting on there couch. Before either one can question there visitor men in black break down there door with guns blazing and so the close knit family is once again on the run. Not knowing who the men are but knowing one thing, that they mean busy Chase and her newly formed family is once again improvising while on the run to keep Bandit safe. But this proves to be harder than it should be with a Sheriff on your team, every turn they make the men in black are not far behind. As tension between the family and there visitor increases things hit crisis point when one of the encounters with the men in black turns deadly and one family member decides to go it alone. The family do better sticking together but is keeping Bandit a secret really the right way to go? This time to keep all the family members safe they might just have to do the unthinkable. I really like Allyson Volker as the narrator, I don't know if it is just because of the books she reads (both the Chase Ryder and Twisted series by Jo Ho) but she is begining to become one of my favourite narrator's, she brings so much emotion and talent to the characters that it is a pleasure to listen too.
NOV ‘23 - 4 STARS : THE CHASE RYDER 3-BOOK SERIES BY JO HO
WANTED (THE CHASE RYDER SERIES BK 1 - DEBUT BOOK) (‘16) HAUNTED (THE CHASE RYDER SERIES BK 2) (‘17) HUNTED (THE CHASE RYDER SERIES BK 3) (‘19)
DESCRIPTION : What would you do if you found an exceptionally intelligent dog only to discover he had valuable information inside his head that could change mankind forever? The first time I saw him, I had no idea he had recently escaped from a mysterious lab. That he had been created there. I'd been living on the streets which was tough, but preferable to home. Then one day, I stumbled upon this skinny dog being attacked. I saved him, but then he saved me, and I realized that Muttface wasn't a normal dog. He was crazy intelligent. I'm talking Mensa levels. It wasn't only his cleverness that I fell for, however. Bandit happened to be one of the sweetest, most purest souls that ever walked the earth. Who knew a dog could have such a goofy sense of humor? When we sought help from a grieving veterinarian named Sully, his clinic was attacked and destroyed by mercenaries. So now here we are, the three of us. On the run across the country against a powerful enemy. Who are they and what do they want with us?
REVIEW : Book 1 - Debut book by this author in 2016 and first book by this author for me. Not a sci-fI fan but love a “talking” dog. The first 20% already has me in love with some of the characters. Chase is already showing her bad ass side and I’m looking forward to seeing more. Not too sci-fi, I guess the altered, communicating dog covers that. The action kept building and love Chase’s new expanding “family”. Book 2 - Haunted of The Chase Ryder series continued the growth of friendships. I did see troubles brewing on the horizon which started my fears for the future. Lots of action. Book 2 was even better than 2 as I got attached to the characters. Book 3 - Hunted of the Chase Ryder series was just as good as the first two and I loved that the action started right away and carried through. The ending was just perfect.
Hunted #3 - This story picks up a few weeks after Haunted ends. I love the ending! Hunted is another good addition to the series by Ms. Ho in which she blends her storytelling talent with her other job. The pace is continuous while the storylines, old and new, keep the reader immersed in the pages. While this isn’t my favorite of the three, the characters helped keep me involved in the story. I found the dialog and some of the character thoughts different from the other two books, but it could be me. I contacted the author to review her books. 4*
Wanted #1 - This is a verified purchase, after getting the Instafreebie with 15 chapters, this book was purchased. Another well written book by Jo. I was impressed with The Boy Next Door, but this novel is just as great. Wanted has characters that are believable and well developed. The fast-paced plot was well thought out, full of intrigue and the pages just flew by, filled with suspense. My emotions were constantly in motion, varying continuously throughout the story. The reason behind the horror has you feeling for the evil person, but continuously pulling for the good guys. 5*
Haunted #2 - Another good book! A well written, suspenseful novel with a well thought out plot and interesting, believable characters. I read it in one sitting, it was so good. This author never fails to disappoint the reader. 5*
The Boy Next Door - A must read. Beautiful story, sad and uplifting. Well-written, compelling the reader to complete the story in one sitting. I'm so glad I contacted the author to review her novella. I want to read more of her work. 5*
If you haven't read the first two books you really must go read them first! I absolutely love this series of has plenty of action and adventure centered around a teenage girl, her medically enhanced super intelligent dog and the secret government agency that is after them. This is the finale of the trilogy and it does not disappoint, there are ups, downs and enough action to make this a very difficult book to put down. The narrator does a fantastic job with each of the characters voices and overall narration that it was so much fun to listen to.
As a parent reviewer I would say it's geared for teens and adults but is clean enough for 4th grade and up. There were only a few bad words but no f-bombs, no overly graphic violence and no bedroom scenes.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Hunted (Chase Ryder, #3), my fourth read from author Jo Ho, the conclusion of the Chase Ryder trilogy and it will not be my last. Hunted picks up where Haunted (Chase Ryder #2) left off. A well-written story from a very good author. No spoilers from me. You need to buy and read the book then leave a review. I discovered Jo Ho when an email from the author encouraged me to read & review The Boy Next Door so I did. Please do the same for an incredible author and an incredible story! “I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. As always I look forward to Jo Ho's next book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I read each book in the series and loved them! They are different from most books I have read, and I have read thousands. The concept is original, the books are hard to put down. I encourage all dog lovers to be sure to get this series ( you cannot read just one!) andfind yourself getting caught up in the adventure, twists and turns.
I read each book in the series and loved them! They are different from most books I have read, and I have read hundreds, if not more. The concept is original, the books are hard to put down. The characters are each well described, and maintain their attitudes throughout. I encourage all dog lovers to get this series (you can't get just one) and find yourself getting caught up in the adventures, twists and turns!
Such a great ending to a wonderful series. Jo Ho took me through every emotion with her writing of this book. Her writing made every character real and puts you in every scene. The ending did justice to the series and the characters. Reminds you again that families come in all walks of life, in all shapes and sizes, and most of all family takes care of family. Chase and Bandit and the others were not all born family but they are family all the same. Yet another phenomenal book by a very talented author. Can't wait to read her next series but am sad this one is over. I received an arc and am voluntarily leaving my review of the book.
Hunted is the third and last book of the Chase Ryder series, and it did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried, and I want a dog like Bandit!!! I am sorry to see these characters and storyline come to end, but the wrap-up was excellent. The characters have depth and draw you into the storyline through their dialogue and interactions. The story moves along swiftly and keeps you interested throughout these characters' journeys. Pick up this series; you will be enjoy the action-packed ride
In this final book of the Chase Ryder series, Jo Ho continues delivering a heart-pounding, action-packed riveting tale. From start to finish, I couldn't put it down. A dog we all wish was ours, characters that are all-too-human, situations that make you go, "huh, glad that's not me." and action, action and action. Jo will bring emotions out of you that you weren't aware you could experience simply reading a book. A master character and world builder, Jo brings it, again!
Needs more star.Just when you get relaxed her comes trouble.First there's Emmma the dead wife,Then the attack on everyone at the house. As they are running for their lives and trying to figure out who Emmma really is.The stakes get higher, leaving one dead and one trying to bring the dead back. But through it all they become stronger and hopefully not have to fight anymore. But I can see another adventure in this series.
As I read each book in this series, I became more involved with the storyline and had a difficult time putting the books aside to do other things. The two main characters were a 14year old teenager and a young intelligent dog who were drawn to each other through their unhappy backgrounds. There was lots of action. This was suitable for young adults and adults. I highly recommend this series.
Wow. This story just kept getting better and better. The Family - Chase, Bandit, Sam, Sully, Gideon and Zeb are enjoying their life on the farm and then all hell breaks loose. Someone is after them again and now they are all on the run. Where do they go, who can they trust - friends are being attacked and murdered and the guys chasing them are not giving up. You will be on the edge of your seat until the end. Good job Jo Ho. Thoroughly enjoyed it (except for the really sad parts).
A new author I found because of a love for dogs. The story is based on using animals for research. A horrible way of learning. The series also touches on runaway and throw away children. The books could use some deep editing for missing words but are cleanly written. I wish Jeb had made it to the end. Highly recommended. Keep the books coming Jo. Thanks for using kindle unlimited.
I know it says it's a YA series but I guarantee that age doesn't matter with this book. I'm 59.The characters are put in situations that would make an adult curl up in a fetal position and cry. The chapters are lead by different characters so you get different perspectives. The writing is excellent. The storyline will keep you glued to the screen or page( however you digest it, you will do so voraciously). One last thing, you're going to love Bandit.
Brilliant story from first book to last. You will come to love the characters. I am not a fast reader but I could not put them and could not wait to see what happened Nextel. The third book was the most explosive and exciting, a few times I had to put it down for a while because I was so worried for the characters. This author has become a new favorite. Can’t wait to read what else she has written. I also love how she got started.
This series is a fast-paced, well-written adventure with twists that will keep you reading late into the night. Chase meets Bandit and all hell breaks loose. On the run from some black ops Feds and rescuing some folks along the way, these books will keep you guessing until it’s over. They may be couched as Young Adult books, but this senior citizens certainly enjoyed them.
My review is based on the audiobook. As much as I hate to see this series end, I have to say it was an epic conclusion. As with the other books in this series Hunted was filled with tons of action, suspense & canine cuteness. The narrator does a fabulous job bringing these characters I have become so invested in to life. I look forward to more from this author & narrator
Most dog lovers wish their dog could talk. Reading this made me want my dog, Jack, to be able to talk even more. I never thought people did experiments on dogs, don't tell me if they do. Any animal lover would like this book! Easy to read, especially with Jack by my side!
Oh my goodness, I am revising my initial review of book one as I didn't realize what exciting, fun, humorous and yet serious issues this author would cover. The suspense and action do not fail!
I'm so excited and hoping Ms. Jo Ho continues this series of a spin off of Bandit's and Pixie's pups!
This series about a teen who started out homeless but becomes part of a very special family has been un put downable!
Chase finds a dog who was a lab experiment. The dog, Bandit, is very intelligent. They have adventures that bond them. Mysterious happenings, travels and destinations make a colorful story I wish there was more of!
I liked the super dog premise, so I started the series. It was interesting enough that I read all 3 in the series. For being a UK citizen Ms Ho did a good job of capturing the American scene.
I don't watch television, preferring books, but if this series ever makes it to TV, as the author wishes, I might make an exception.
I enjoyed these books and I am not a young adult. I’m what would be considered elderly I guess. The series is full of suspense, action and emotion. The story is very well written and the characters are people you can identify with including the dogs. It’s clean and heart warming while also causing you to experience a gamut of emotions.
The world building and character growth were very well done. As a dog lover with a Wheaten/Poodle mix (named Bandit too), I really connected with the bond between Chase and Bandit, I wish my dog could manage an I pad! Seriously, the story and development, and unexpected twists, kept me reading late into the night. Highly recommend this series.
An amazing finale to this amazing set of books. Our hero's find themselves thrown into extreme situations once more. There is love, laughter and heartbreak along the way as it builds up to an action-packed finale.
I am in love with this Author. Read these books in one go, Couldn’t sleep until the end. Recommend these books to anyone who loves an exciting journey with beloved characters!
Loved loved this book! All the books actually! Love how you always bring the story back to the dog and it was wonderful when his friends came to rescue them at the studio! I'm praying this story line continues with 12 newbies it could be a goldmine
I have read the entire series and it is incredible. I love the resolution of the story and the development of the characters. Thank you Up No for such an excellent series.
