One year after being attacked by a Werewolf, Patrick O’Connell finds himself embroiled in the illegal dealings of the Alpha who controls the Fallen Cross Pack. Certain pack mates have convinced him he is the last hope for this lost group of wolves, but Patrick’s motivation is much more personal. His only desire is to reunite with his wife and young daughter. The only way to achieve his goal is to eliminate the current Alpha, which leaves Patrick with no choice. He must kill Derrick Devaris, or lose his family—and his soul—forever.
What started as therapy turned into a fulltime passion for Aliya DalRae. The fictional town of Fallen Cross, Ohio, and its cast of characters, both human and paranormal, reside in her imagination, and she brings their stories of love, loss and redemption to life in her Jessica Sweet Trilogy, and The Fallen Cross Pack and Fallen Cross Legion Series. You can find Aliya on Facebook and Goodreads, or subscribe to her newsletter at http://eepurl.com/dtEWqH for twice-monthly updates, contests and more.
In ‘Bitter Challenge,’ Aliya DalRae’s second book of the Fallen Cross Pack, Patrick O’Connell, a “made wolf,” must get his wolf on to challenge the big bad wolf, Derrick Devaris, for the leadership alpha position in the Pack.
This story provides a heartfelt connection to an influential character in the Jessica Sweet trilogy of novels. However, it also speaks volumes about what a human being is willing to endure or sacrifice for what he holds dear.
The story is well-written, fast-paced, engaging and snappy—in dialogue and testy wolves who bare their fangs in the bitter challenge at the full moon clearing.
An ADR Short that follows 'Bitter Beginnings', this book tells the story of the next stage in the life of Patrick Danes. Although now a wolf shifter and separated from his family, he has lost neither his principles nor his desire to make things better for the pack.
The narrative flows easily, bringing scenes and characters to life for the reader. Patrick's strength and moral character gives the reader a sense of safety and hope in even the most dire of situations.
'Bitter Challenge' is another great short read that has further filled out the answers to mysteries raised in DalRae's Jessica Sweet novels, yet can easily stand alone and be read without spoilers of the series for readers who haven't got to those other books yet.
It’s been a year since Patrick O’Connell was ruthlessly attacked and bitten by a werewolf. He’s biding his time, waiting for his opportunity to overthrow his ruthless pack leader, Devaris, and maybe… just maybe, he can restore a small part of his former life.
At only 50+ pages, DalRae packs a lot into this powerful short story that acts as a bridge between each short chapter of the Fallen Cross Pack Series, and readers will find it extremely difficult not to take in the entire 4 book series in one flash sitting. By now, DalRae has worked her magic, pulling the reader forward into the story of Patrick’s wolf-life with such force, it’s impossible to leave the pack. Her hero is one that sets firm goals and overcomes any challenges that get in his way, taking into account, however, those lives that will be greatly impacted by his decisions.
Patrick’s story is a fight for freedom, vengeance, and control, but most of all, it is a story of love. His fight to regain his lost-love, Maggie, will have readers swooning as soon as they hear him share his innermost thoughts with his new pack. “Bitter Challenge”, along with the first chapter in this series, “Bitter Beginnings”, has grabbed hold of me and will never let me go. For that reason alone, DalRae has earned my utmost respect as a master-storyteller and Fantasy Queen. Hail to the Queen of the Pack!
All that I can say is GO PATRICK! You definetly want to keep reading this series, nail biting and full of unexpected twists! Love, love this book! A must read!
Patrick O’Connell had lost everything important to him and is left with a pack of degenerate shifters. Between selling drugs and weapons Patrick and his friend, Butch, are becoming fed up with their lot in life. The Alpha, Devaris has complete control over every aspect of their lives. Then Butch dangles the proverbial carrot – the slim possibility of ever getting reunited with his wife and daughter lies with the death of the Alpha. Butch believes Patrick has the strength to take control of the pack but – in order to be the Alpha you had to kill the Alpha. Patrick doesn’t know if he has it in him. Great continuation of the Bitter Beginnings story. This one is all about the ‘Challenge.’ Devaris has held the position of Alpha for decades and rules with an iron fist. Anyone even considering not doing what they have been told have been known to disappear without a trace. Great story, wonderful fully-fleshed characters. I love everything about the world DalRae has created. Highly Recommended!!
These stories about Patrick and the wolf's are awesome! It's so entertaining to hear how he's turned and how he fights into the pack. The dynamic of a wolf pack is fascinating, but this particular one is even more fabulous.
Patrick is definitely on a journey, not of his making, but he's come a long way from the first night when he was bitten.
A short, but intriguing story of Patrick and his challenge to the Alpha of his pack. Despite being so short, the characters are well developed and the storyline flows quite well. I enjoyed this although I have to admit that I'd love it... longer.
