The »Historia septem sapientum«, the most widespread version of a much-treated subject in world literature (the ""seven sages""), has hitherto not been accorded appropriate research attention with regard to the history of its transmission. In addition, the sole existing edition of the Latin text provides only an incomplete version of the oldest manuscript. This study is the first to attempt a thorough discussion of the history of the transmission of the »Historia« in terms of manuscripts and printed versions. On the basis of this discussion, the volume also provides a text-historical edition of the four main versions of the text.
