This was a really sweet romance.

We follow Ruth from when she was very young until her university school years. She tries to do her best but despite all of her efforts, she never quite felt like she clicked - with anyone. Not her family, nor the people at school. After all,

"The little children can be very cruel."

Her family life is fraught with struggle and she feels like an outsider looking in. In part because of being forced to move to remote village. While she did keep up with her academics via home schooling, she felt like she was continuously missing out on so much of the high school experience.

I did enjoy reading about how Ruth blossomed from a timid young girl to the assured woman. And, several times, I just clicked with her.

"Grandmother loves to feed people. Her cooking is amazing. So, I happily oblige her and eat the food."

Every time I see my grandmother, the same thing happens, and like Ruth, I'm happy to oblige.

It did take me a bit to get used to the writing but once I did, I was swept into the novel. This was a very short novel, so it was a rather quick read. There were a few areas that I wished the author would have expanded upon or brought my depth to.

Wonderful work by the author

This is the second book I have read from this author and have come to truly appreciate and enjoy her writing style.

In this book, Bithi Paul has created a very detailed setting of family life and drama that gradually builds momentum so that readers can really empathize with Ruth's trepidations of falling in love.

As in her previous novel I had read, Waiting for her Prince, the love story is simply beautiful. I do look forward to reading more from this author.

I didn't really know what to expect from this book, it was not what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it. It was a really short read, but it was quite interesting.
