Wohl keiner hat es schwerer empfunden als Dahlmann, dass auch diesmal die Bundesversammlung, wie vorher in der Sache Schleswig Holsteins, dem Recht ihre Hülfe versagte und so immer tiefer in der öffentlichen Meinung sank. Aber er verkannte nicht, was diese be deute, und wie die Angelegenheit Hannovers das politische Gemein gefühl Deutschlands neu belebt und gekräftigt hat.
