Cash Valley: To Bring One Down

Agent Alex Travis returns to Cache Valley in search of an escaped prisoner, who bears a striking resemblance to one of the gang members Jack killed in the shootout in Green Canyon four years earlier. His instincts are leading him in the right direction, but he continues to be one step behind the man seeking revenge on Jack & Kate, and their young daughter, Emma. By not telling the whole truth of the missing bank money at the time of the recovery, Agent Travis has put them all in jeopardy. He must now decide if he can solve this case on this own, in time to save his friends, or if he risks asking for help from the Bureau and ruining his career in the process, a possibility that could land him in jail as well.

In a race to see who finds who first, the search shifts to nearby Logan Canyon, where Agent Travis will be tested by his own conscience as much as by the man he’s hunting.

I have not read the first book but that did not diminish my enjoyment of this sequel in any way, other than to encourage me to read the original book.

Ryan K Nelson has expertly recreated the feeling of 1950’s mid-western USA with a fast-paced but simple to follow plot. It was easy to read with enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested. There are also a few large chunks of cheese to warm you up and to counteract the violence.

There is a relatively small list of characters but Nelson gives an insight to all of them. I could not help empathising in some way with each of them, even those who were on the wrong side of the law. The lead protagonist Agent Travis is a classic lone-wolf Federal Agent with a good record gained from methods that are frequently outside the text-book.

He is referred throughout as “Agent Travis” and I must confess to not reading the word “Agent” as I worked my way through the book; it did get repetitive.

In terms of quality the book could benefit from a re-edit as there are a large number of spelling and grammatical errors including some doubt as to whether the featured location is spelt CASH or CASHE.

All in all, Cash Valley: To Bring One Down is a lot of fun, providing simple entertainment where the good guys win and the innocent live happily ever after. I have given it four stars.

You don't need to necessarily read Book 1 to capture the full flavor of this book. I don't retain books well and I read the first one awhile ago, and flashes came back to me, but this story holds up all on it's own in a very suspenseful way. I was grasped and held captive from start to finish and it was especially fun for me because this is where I grew up. I loved picturing this places how they must have been 60+ years ago.

The lives of an FBI agent, an escaped convict, and a young, innocent couple all collide in a truly terrifying tale of danger and I couldn't read this one fast enough. I was stunned by the ingenuity these characters had while facing a sudden shock. How could they function in the face of this kind of peril?! I would be frozen with fear, but no. These are clever and resourceful characters.

This story is fast paced and highly entertaining and I can't wait to finish off the series.

Content: mild-moderate moments of peril/danger/violence; mild language

I enjoyed the first book in this series, and quite frankly, thought it worked well as a standalone. I was intrigued when the author, Ryan Nelson, contacted me about a sequel and interested to see how it would be accomplished.

I am pleased to say that this book didn't disappoint! It takes place four years after the first book. Agent Alex Travis, Kate, and Jack are surprised to learn about a loose end in the bank robbery case they were all involved in. They are thrown into a situation they weren't prepared for and need to adjust quickly in order to survive.

I loved the pacing! I kept turning the pages quickly to learn what would happen next. This book is just as intense as the first book. The characters have to deal with some tough situations and I wasn't sure how they would get out of some of them. I liked the balance the author struck between making what they went through realistic without making it too difficult to read.

I would recommend both of these books to anyone that enjoys mystery/suspense. The author includes history of the Cache Valley area, which I'm not familiar with, but found interesting. I look forward to reading more of Ryan Nelson's work in the future!

I received a complimentary copy from the author, which did not affect my review in any way

I loved this book. The author did a great job at capturing my attention right away during the prologue (my attention is hard to get with books!) I was so happy there was a second book in this series because I fell in love with Jack and Kate and couldn’t wait to see what happened to them after all the chaos in the first book. Their romance is so simple and realistic; I love how their life together is filled with a mix of suspense, action, and thrill, yet they still come back to each other. The story is intense! Every chapter has something new happening and twists that keep you wanting more- hence the reason I read it so fast, I couldn’t get myself to put the book down! I attended Utah state university and I liked being familiar with the Cache Valley settings. They author is great at painting a picture of it all even if you aren’t familiar with Northern Utah. I would highly recommend this book. It is very well written and very engaging. I hope there will be a third book in the series because I don’t want the story to end quite yet!

My Rating: 3.5!!!
This book is a little darker than the first book, but I still liked it. Agent Travis hunts down an escaped prisoner, and th hunt leads him to Cache Valley, once again. Does this escaped prisoner have anything to do with his previous case there? And are Jack and Kate in danger? Unfortunately, the answer is yes to both those questions. Agent Travis must hunt down the prisoner before he endangers Jake or Kate. This book is action-packed! It's well written and has great characters. If you're looking for a bad guy, look no further than Donovan. He oozes evil. I really liked this book. It's rated PG-13+ and is recommended for ages 16+. The Cache Valley setting was fun. But it pushed it in the sexual area, making it uncomfortable and not something I would recommend to younger readers. And it had some language.
