PCS to Corporate From Military Tactics to Corporate Interviewing Strategy is both a workbook and a reference book for any junior military officer who is considering a permanent change of station (PCS) to the business world. Written by Roger Cameron, a leading authority on preparing JMOs for a successful transition to corporate America and the cofounder of the recruiting firm Cameron-Brooks Inc., this best-selling resource guides candidates through each stage of the job search from making an application to accepting an offer, with emphasis on mission-critical preparation for the initial and follow-up interviews. Roger discusses the wide array of questions you can expect in an interview and gives you the tools and techniques to develop excellent responses based on a self-assessment of your abilities and accomplishments. Most important, he provides confidence-building exercises to help you understand the value of your military experience in a corporate setting. He also offers ideas for adapting your unique military background to the culture and requirements of a company. In addition to a reading list that will give you a sound knowledge of basic business concepts, the book contains a wealth of practical tips for writing an effective resume, dressing appropriately, establishing rapport with the recruiter, conveying problem-solving and leadership skills, and much more while avoiding the many pitfalls that can result in a negative impression. This edition of PCS to Corporate America, written with the assistance of Cameron-Brooks team members Chuck Alvarez and Joel Junker, has been updated to reflect the current business and military environments. The advice in these pages will not only prepare you for a new future in corporate America but also foster your professional growth as you advance in your business career.
This book is a must read for any transitioning service members; regardless if they pursue Corporate or not.
Not reading this book will only do more harm! It is truly that educational! If investing in yourself is what you take pride in, than add this to your investor-growth tool kit bag!
Not a must read but certainly helpful. As a transitioning member it gave me things to consider such as business attire, resume help, how to frame my mind, and all kinds of interview preparation. I appreciate that it has actionable takeaways, references, and an appendix.
This book is a must read for all junior military officers; it helps map out your career as you seek to transition out, but also supports your decision, should you decide to stay in. It equips you with the tools to more effectively lead and manage (skills that are severely lacking in the Army) and the language to be understood outside of the Army. It teaches you how to dress for success. It teaches you how to interview successfully. It teaches you how to manage your career to achieve what you want. It is a highly motivational read that will kickstart a long line of professional development reading. It also has an appendix with several good book recommendations and many good author recommendations. I will be purchasing this book in hard copy and keeping it on my shelf close at hand.
An excellent book for novice interviewees. This book explains how to convert your experience into answers to common interview questions that will give a positive response from most interviewers. Note, this is written by a headhunter organization that is biased on their business model, but the advice is universal to anyone looking to interview.
A great book that anyone considering transitioning from the military to the business world should read. I recommend it now to all Lieutenants even if they don't plan to get out.
I enjoyed the topics covered, and it gave a good starting point for transitioning officers. I highly recommend it even if you don't use Cameron-Brooks.
