If you have any interest in rock art, this book is a great place to start for New Mexico sites. It is lavishly illustrated and provides interesting interpretation instead of just the checklist of tourist sites found in so many books. Of course given where I currently reside, I found the chapter on the Rio Grande style most interesting. I liked the theory of the connection between the Journada Culture and the masks found in Rio Grande sites. Her work towards tracing the origins and movement of the katcina cult to the Rio Grande Valley are also fascinating. If you are someone who has visited a few sites and believes any petroglyph is just like any other, I would recommend reading this book. It helps one to see the stylistic differences among cultural groups and will greatly enhance your petroglyph gazing techniques!
