The book is an easy-to-read exposition on what the authors term a mobile bohemian lifestyle, which is similar to the digital nomad lifestyle in which one work remotely at anytime and anywhere via a laptop and Internet connection. The two authors share how they devoted many years of careful preparation and research before taking the plunge and shifting from a regular office job to their current lifestyle in which work and life are intertwined at all times. Powered by mobile technologies, they fully embrace and love the fact that they are not bound to a single workplace and are free to roam across multiple countries every year.
Even though this kind of globetrotting, nomadic life does seem fascinating (or even glamorous), and as much as the authors encourage more people to try it, ultimately, I don't think it is suited for most people. For starters, people who have a spouse or kids most likely can't easily change their lifestyles. Although they can try to change where and how they work, not everyone can easily ditch their family obligations and go travel around the world for months. So unless their family members are willing and able to travel along as well, this nomadic lifestyle is probably not viable. Another important thing is that it takes at least years to build and grow a steady, sizable stream of passive income to support such a lifestyle. And perhaps just as important is whether one would genuinely enjoy having to regularly move from one place to another year after year. I would venture to guess not too many people could meet all these basic criteria.
This is not a book that tells you HOW to achieve the lifestyle the authors have. Rather, it’s a book about WHY they enjoy this kind of lifestyle. They share their mindset & helpful tips, and hope to inspire the readers.
The main takeaway for me is: 1. You have to ask yourself whether you enjoy your current life, if not, maybe it’s time to make some change. 2. Try to keep an open heart and explore different possibilities with an experimental mindset to find a lifestyle you enjoy (“Keep looking, don’t settle - Steve Jobs). 3. Think about lifestyle first, and then have multiple sources of income to support it.
The only downside for me is that the content feels a bit thin.
