After twenty years of chugging back and forth across the system, professional shuttle pilot and amateur prospector Skip Martin finally hits the jackpot - the strike of a lifetime putting undreamed of wealth within his very grasp. But Skip’s road to riches is one fraught with peril, and with no guarantees that his scheme will come to fruition, he must put his faith in luck, a little ingenuity, a rock hammer and a pair of magnetic boots. Whether that is enough, only time will tell…
L.J. Simpson was born in Wolverhampton, England in 1956. He worked primarily in the steel industry until 1990 when he embarked on a fairly radical change of direction, moving to Japan where he opened a small English language school. Married with two grown up children, work still takes up a great deal of his time. The remainder he divides up between taking long walks by the sea with his ever faithful border collie, building model tall ships and writing.
When you want to grab a chance for untold wealth you might do as I do and buy a lottery ticket. Skip Martin, an in-solar system shuttle pilot, instead bought a Skysearch 500. This little beauty was a space prospector’s dream come true allow both the amateur and the professional to cruise space or explore an asteroid in search of precious metals. This, Skip could dream, was his ticket out of his dull and lonely job taking supplies and personal items to remote parts of the solar system.
But, be careful what you wish for. We follow Skip on his “run” and are with him when he makes his discovery. He makes careful plans to stake his claim and cash in. But the path to future happiness rarely follows our dreams.
This nice story can be read in a single sitting. It is quite conventional but entertaining. HBalikov Thanks to my GR friend Montzalee for pointing me in this direction.
