Set during the end times of the Napoleonic Wars on the rugged Cornwall coast, this is a wonderful historical tale complete with smugglers, wreckers, secret tunnels, an escaped murderer ~ and of course romance!
I can tell it was written in the 1980s, but it had a certain charm to it and added to the historical feel of the story. The titles of certain people weren't always consistent or presented correctly ~ Lady Sanford being unmarried should have had her Christian name in there, like Lady Charlotte did, and Lady Caroline Penross shouldn't have had the Caroline added. Plus, Lady Charlotte's brother, being the only son, would have his late father's title. However the story was very strong and those were just mild irritations that distracted me from the story.
This hit my favourite list for 2015, and has now been reread in 2016 and 2018.
