Matt Drake’s eighteenth adventure sees the team catapulted into a rip-roaring archaeological romp that, unbeknown to them, began when they first discovered the Bones of Odin.
The Weapons of the Gods were stolen from the countless tombs that Drake and his team uncovered; then sold on, coveted and killed for. Now, the new promise of their combined power has unleashed a formidable force who will stop at nothing to own them all.
Thrown into the new quest against their will, Team Spear face incredible odds—they are being hunted by their own government whilst trying to weed out highly placed traitors, and stop global mercenary and terrorist forces from causing worldwide mayhem.
The team battle from Texas to Greece, from deserted islands to London, from Syria to Washington DC, as they identify the traitors that disavowed them and join an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime battle where a force made up of hundreds of elite Special Forces soldiers takes on a vast army of terrorists in Syria.

Weapons of the Gods (Matt Drake Book 18) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
*slight spoilers*Despite their usual do-or-die exits from previous tombs of various Gods, from the Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Roman pantheons, SPEAR are in the habit of 'clearing up' after their world-saving adventures whenever possible. Yet in this case it seems that certain weaponized-capable ancient artefacts created by just those same Gods, have been left in places where they can be stolen or misappropriated, after the good guys have gone on to their next mission,in Weapons of the Gods, Book 18 in David Leadbeater's outstanding Matt Drake series. In fact not only are there seven that SPEAR actually know of, but as their now kidnapped Presidential liaison Kimberley Crowe, later tells them, there are as many as 20 artefacts that together could bring about an Armageddon, if their powers are linked together using the Sword of Ares, that has now been stolen from where it was placed in for safekeeping. To top it all, a terrorist group called Tempest,(led by traitors from all parts of the US, including a General and a Presidential aide),are actively seeking the rest of the artefacts, while also training up and arming a radicalised mercenary army in Iraq, with orders to eliminate the SPEAR Team and obtain the Weapons at whatever cost, whether financial or physical. Oh and then there's the psychopathic group of tech geeks, FrameHub, with their get-rich-quick plans to blackmail 1st and 2nd world countries into giving them a massive payday - or else they'll fry electronics, damage vital computer controls and create deadly mayhem - whatever it takes to rule the world and only former SPEAR Karin Blake and her two-man team of 'rogue agents' can infiltrate their command centre and warn SPEAR what their plans are before its too late. Matt and the others have to split into two smaller teams to ensure the bad guys on both sides of the Atlantic will be brought to justice, while trying not to get killed in numerous violent ways themselves. Will they all live to fight another day? Who leaves SPEAR? What happens to Kimberley? Who is Nightshade? Just when you thought you couldn't get any more excited by a David Leadbeater all-action,archaeological mystery-thriller and spy adventure, along comes yet another fantastic episode to keep you going all night, as you can't put a great book like Weapons of the Gods down til you get to the very end. 5 stars for sure!
They must find the weapons of the Gods before Tempest finds them
Adventure thrills sadness this book has them all fighting not only for their lives but fighting for their innocents and a pardon to say they are free once again. Adrenalin flowing as they chase down the weapons of the gods, a group named as Tempest wants to rule the world but this group know as SPEAR has to stop them, Tempest also sent a group after them to “bring them back or kill them” Luther their leader actually ends up being part of their team. There is a lot of blood letting in this story as they not only fight to save the world from mad men but to save themselves from the mad teams tempest have set up around the world. There is a lot going on there are a number of other stories in this book too “Framehub” who demand countries yield to their demands, Karen Blake who has her own agenda to not only kill Drake but the spear team too, then there is the mysterious Molokai who turns out to be Luthers brother both fierce fighters, this book is about domination and sacrifice those who want and those who are willing to give up their lives for the rest of us who are unawares what’s out there. Highly recommend

So much action crammed into this story that it is what's missing that bothers me. Not to spoil anything but 300 more pages would have filled this out nicely and with so much more meaning than the caricatures that were presented. Lauren's role, Karin's role, could have been great stories on their own and Tempest needed a lot deeper development to be cared about at all. Time to take these great characters past the comic book stage and let them really live!!
The SPEAR team are still disavowed and hunting down Tempest, this time on the hunt for the weapons of the gods. The first part of the book does seem a bit disjointed, as the team jump from one hunt to another, which leaves the usual character dynamic a bit muted. The last part, as the team home in on Tempest saves the day and leaves the weapons hunt a bit wasted.
Yet another winner from David, I was really looking forward to this book as Ive been a keen follower of Matt Drake and Co. since the beginning. This sets of at the usual pace, full on, and doesn't stop, I love the way the characters are still developing after 18 books. Wont say much about the plot but bring on the next one David.
Weapons of the Gods (Matt Drake #18) by David Leadbeater is Matt Drake is a lot oe than you expect. A lot of the same characters you know and love, more enemies than ever before, some resolutions, and the surprise return of one of the worst enemies we thought was safely gone. So obviously there is more to come, and I for one am looking forward to it!
It is kind of hard to believe, but David Leadbeater has reached a new level of action-adventure writing with Weapons of the Gods. The action sequences are fast, furious, and top-notch, the rest of the exposition is excellent, and the character development continues to be interesting. I can’t wait to start the next one.
Another awesome book! David Leadbeater has the talent and ability to capture the reader's attention on page one and keep you spellbound til the final page. Well done! Can't wait for the next book!
I brought the book based on author's name only not realizing after starting the book how far behind I had fallen with the series. A great read and now I have to go back and play catch up. WOW, How I am looking forward to it!
This is by far one of the most satisfying of the Matt Drake books. The Spear team is no longer disavowed and are in this fight with other speciality fighting teams. They are gearing up for a battle of the worlds. I can't wait!!
Every book is like returning to old friends. They are crazy, wild and violent, but their adventures and their friendships make every book worth looking forward to.
This edition of Matt Drake was on going from start to finish the battles were constant and scattered all over the world! I wonder how David comes up with stories every time!!!
So happy that I didn't discover this series early on. This way I am able to keep the adventure going, reading one right after the other. Love the adventures. Love the characters.
Thank you David Lead beater for another great fun read of team Spear and their adventures. Looking forward to see what happens next, great job and thanks for sharing your wild imagination.
Never a dull moment, hardly even a moment to catch your breath. The Team faces adversity at ever corner and the reader is right there at every turn. Amazing.
Continued great storyline but little in the way of actual nemesis this round. Would have liked to see Tempest do more than run around like a half-cocked goose on a treasure hunt. The book sets up the next arc well though almost seems like it will repeat that storyline.
