About the author

Anwara Syed Haq is a writer of Bangla literature. She has written a number of novels, short stories, children's books and also written a number of essays. She has been praised for using her knowledge of human psychology beautifully in her writings. She is a psychiatrist by profession.

After completing her SSC and HSC in Jessore, Haq moved to Dhaka in 1959 and enrolled in Dhaka Medical College. She obtained her MBBS degree in 1965. In 1973 went to the United Kingdom for higher education. After having completed her post graduate degree in medical psychiatry in 1982 she returned home from the UK. She has since then worked at a number of institutions, among which are Bangladesh Airforce, Dhaka Medical College and BIRDEM.

Haq's first short story "Paribartan" was published in Sangbad in 1954. From 1955 to 1957, she regularly wrote for Ittefaque's "Kachi Kanchar Ashor". Her first novel was published in Sachitra Shandhani in 1968. After her first novel, she has written a number of novels and short stories. Many of her novels are set in Dhaka and London where she spent much of her time. Her publications consist of twenty-five novels, three volumes of poems, eight collections of short stories, eight collections of essays, three autobiography volumes, two collections of travel writing, forty fictional stories for young readers.

Now she works professionally as a psychiatrist.

কোন এক্সপেকটেশন ছাড়াই পড়া শুরু করেছিলাম। এমনিতেও ছোটদের গল্প পড়তে আমার দারুণ লাগে। কেমন আদর আদর একটা গল্প। ঠিক ওই বয়সের কল্পনার জগৎ মনে হয় সবারই একই রকম থাকে। বাবা-মা কে ছেড়ে থাকা একটা শিশুর মনস্তাত্ত্বিক যে টানাপোড়েন আর একাকিত্ব বোধ সেটা বুঝতে পারা যায়।
পড়া শেষ করে ছোট্ট ছানার জন্য কেমন মায়া মায়া লাগলো আমার। আহারে।

আনোয়ারা সৈয়দ হক- এর বই নিয়ে ঘাটতে গিয়ে ছানা সিরিজ এর সন্ধান পাই।ছোটোদের বই পড়তে ভালোবাসি,আবার ছানার সাথে নিজের হালকা পাতলা মিল খুঁজে পাওয়ায় বইখানা পড়ার খুব আগ্রহ জাগলো।

ছানা তার নামের মতোই ছোট্টটি।দস্যিপনার তার শেষ নেই।এই পুচকি খালাম্মার মাছের মাথার মুড়ো তে ভাগ বসাচ্ছে,এই নিমকি খালাম্মার প্ল্যানচেট বরবাদ করে দিচ্ছে।মিনি খালাম্মাকে শাসিয়ে তেঁতুল বাগিয়ে নিচ্ছে,তো এই কাদের মামার মারের হাত থেকে বাঁচতে সারাদিন টো টো করে ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে।ছানার হাতে-পায়ে-জামায় ধুলো,মনে ঝলমলে শৈশবের আঁকিবুঁকি।
সারাদিন চষে বেড়িয়ে,মামা-খালা-বন্ধুদের সাথে খুনসুটি করে ছানা যখন রাতে নানুজানের বুকে মুখ গুঁজে শোয়,মনে মনে ছানা তখন তার মায়ের ছবি আঁকে-কেমন ছিলো তার মা দেখতে?দূর্গা ঠাকুরের মতোই বুঝি!জন্মের পরপর-ই মাকে হারানো ছানার, মা হারানো ছানাপাখির মতোই দিশেহারা লাগে।
আর বাবা?সে ই বা কোথায়?সবাই বলে সে নাকি ঢাকায় থাকে,তাহলে ছানার কাছে সে আসেনা কেন?
এসব ভাবতে ভাবতে ছানা সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়, সে বাবার কাছে যাবেই।আর পরেরদিন সকালেই বাড়ি থেকে পালিয়ে ছানার সেই অভিযান শুরু হয়।

মা-বাবা ছাড়া নানাবাড়িতে মানুষ হওয়া ছানার দুষ্ট -মিষ্টি গল্প-ই ছানার নানাবাড়ি। ছোটোদের বই একিসাথে কি মিষ্টি আর বিষাদমাখা হতে পারে তার প্রমাণ আবার পেলাম!

প্রথম পড়েছিলাম 'ছানা ও মুক্তিযুদ্ধ'। পড়ে আশাহতই হয়েছিলাম বলা যায়। কিন্তু কোন প্রাণশক্তি নিয়ে তারপর এইটে শুরু করছিলাম জানি না। তবে এটা পড়ার পর মনে হলো নাহ্ — খারাপ তো লাগেনি।

ছোটবেলার কথা মনে করিয়ে দেয় খুব এইরকম বইগুলো । জীবনের পড়া শিশুতোষ বইগুলির ভেতরে অন্যতম সেরা একটি বই।হাইলি রিকমেন্ডেড ।এক বসাতেই শেষ করেছি বলা যায়
