Brought together . . . and torn apart
HUMAN

Cynical, bitter Jack Ryerson, thirty-one years old, has lost yet another bet. This one’s landed him at Robot Academy, whose mission is to bridge the human-robot divide.

ROBOT

Naïve, idealistic Syd Birkett is the roommate Jack never wanted. And the two soon find themselves caught up in an explosive conflict, as anti-robot propaganda spreads through the school.

ALLIES

As tensions rise, Jack and Syd reach a stark realization. This isn’t school anymore. This is a fight for survival. A fight neither can afford to lose.

I love the premise of this book robots and human living and loving alongside each other. However I'm, not a fan of insta-love which to me is simply a cop-out for the author. No dating, no courting, no romance just "I love you" the minute they met. IMHO the insta-love was unrealistic especially when it happened three times between a human and a robot.

I liked that we got to see events from both a robot (Syd) and a human (Jack) and what very differing opinions they were. However, it would have been very helpful to have tagged each chapter so the reader would know whose head we were in. As it is, it took a paragraph or two to figure out who eyes you were seeing through.

I loved the character development. Jack was a depressed ass through most of the book and this didn't change. He wasn't cool one moment and a jerk the next, he had a very consistent personality. Though I will say the one encounter with Alyse was unnecessary.

This book could really use an editor. Lots of names not capitalized, incomplete sentences and at times repetitive. I caught that their dorm was small and that Syd was huge and that the Captain was gigantic but I didn't need to be reminded of this over and over again.

I received and Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
