A good primer on the domestic or internal slave trade. Lots of figures, and some worthwhile anecdotes. The bibliography is quite good.

This was written by an academic historian in 1904, which was its first attraction for me. How accurate or objective it is, I don't know. It was obvious he had used primary sources to research the material and often quoted newspaper articles, government reports, etc.

The free kindle copy I read was extremely hard to follow due to the way it was presented on the page.
