It took me a long time to get through this! I used a student’s edition that featured just half of the book, but even that took me a while. It was an interesting read, I felt like I learned interesting things about the ancient world and how some things worked back then. I was also surprised by how good of a prose stylist Caesar was. All the same, I didn’t find the book especially deep or profound, at least, not the parts that I read. While the book is definitely of historical interest, I don’t think I’ll be reading the second half anytime soon.

I’ll rate it highly for the sake of edition, which was incredibly thorough and detailed in its notes, and had a very helpful supplementary section in the back.
