Révolution, contre-révolution - actes du colloque, Lyon, 1989
1789: a generation helplessly witnesses the violence and iniquities of the Revolution. - How did we get here ? The riot becomes bloodthirsty and catastrophic for the French "Nation" in whose name we are nevertheless acting. - But, precisely, who acts? French blood is flowing. Innocents of all castes are perishing in the name of abstract "Great Principles". A person who does not have the good fortune to please the dominant ideology is declared to be "of impure blood".
- Who makes the opinion? In ten years, France, as a sovereign nation, finds itself definitively removed from the direction of history. Despite passing illusions, we know that we have suffered a defeat, that we are collectively diminished in all areas, that we experience, each day more, the contempt of other peoples. Some people no doubt welcome it, but for the vast majority the question remains: - Why these massacres, these destructions, this belittlement? The counter-revolutionary thinkers of all countries were, at the time, the only ones who attempted to apprehend the phenomenon in its totality and to foresee all its consequences for the future.
Far from being just nostalgic or simple despisers of events, they above all studied the intrinsic nature of the forces present in order to identify what, in the evolution of traditional thought, was worth preserving or precisely avoiding. After two centuries of political and cultural warfare, the topicality of their analyzes has probably never been so lively. The contributions brought together in this book show that two conceptions of the world are at work in this conflict.
