Diamond and Mica have been best friends since grade school, and have always watched each other’s backs. After Mica moves out of their drug-infested neighborhood, they have a scandalous falling out and lose touch. It isn’t until Diamond hooks up with one of North Philly’s most notorious drug dealers that she’s able to leave the place that she’s always called home. Under extreme circumstances, Mica and Diamond meet up and are back on the map as the Laverne and Shirley of the ghetto, but unfortunately, both friends have ulterior motives for rekindling their friendship. The two plot to get rid of the dealer and hit the road with his fortune, but one of them has her own sinister plan that could leave the other staring death in the eye. Jealousy and greed create plenty of drama for Diamond. Even when she thinks she’s on her way to a happily-ever-after ending, she finds herself fighting against foes she never saw coming. Will her “I rule the world” disposition keep her on top, or will Diamond lose the things she cares about the most?
I'm always talking about how characters aren't fleshed out in some urban fiction. Who needs fleshed out characters when you pack one crazy situation after another in a book? At first, the book is told from friend Diamond and Mica's povs. Diamond and Mica become "friends" when Diamond meets Mica's brother Johnny and he develops a crush on her. What follows is sheer madness. They go their separate ways after Johnny shoots and kills their abusive dad. Something Mica blames Diamond for. But meet again years later when Diamonds husband kidnaps Mica as bait. Neither character is likable as they go from one drug dealer to the next for money and stability. Mica sleeps with Diamonds husband (yes the same husband that had her kidnapped). Diamond kills Mica... Or so she thinks. This is just a tidbit of what happens. You definitely have to suspend belief at some points (like you live in a "nice neighborhood" yet your neighbors never call the cops with all the shooting going on?) Right. 3.5 stars for keeping me reading to see what was going to happen next.

Honestly, I am shocked that this book made it to an actual publishing run. Don't get me wrong, the story is interesting-I kept reading to find out what happened-but the grammatical structure and punctuation were kind of elementary. I assume that's the fault of the publisher. I actually found several typos (one is forgivable but several is an editing problem) and the run-on sentences gave me a headache. The dialogue was jerky, stilted and lacked flow.
Additionally, the majority of the plot was just the same thing happening over and over again; marriage and then a secret affair leading to a murder and a new marriage and another affair and more murder and remarriage..it got monotonous after a while. It was broken up here and then by little surprises, however. The characters were well developed, even if their motivations were a little too simplistic for a compelling storyline.
