An Inheritance of Hope

Rate this book
A deadly virus is raging war on the human race, and the CDC and its global partners can’t stop it. When patient zero enters the United States from China via San Francisco with a connecting flight to Boston, no one is aware of the pandemic he has unleashed in the country.
Riley Cooper and her teenagers leave California in the early hours of the morning bound for Utah, on what was to be a month-long vacation at her parents’ home. During the first six hours of her drive, Riley feels something is wrong but can’t quite put her finger on it. Pulling over in Saint George for food and gas, she and her kids find the world they knew has begun to unravel.
In its wake—good, decent, law-abiding citizens have become their own worst nightmares by committing the most vile and heinous crimes. Riley’s only mission is to ensure a future for her children in a world that doesn’t want them to have one. Through the midst of all the terror and horrors of the world, Riley is reintroduced to the one true God and the resounding love He has for her family and the people that have joined them. Because of Him, hope is more than just a word; it is the new foundation for the world that lies before them.

An Inheritance of Hope recounts the adventures of Riley Cooper and her family, as they try to outrun a deadly virus. I absolutely loved how throughout the book, Riley exemplifies God's love, kindness, mercy, and forgiveness towards others. Teaching her kids to trust God, regardless of how challenging the circumstances become, is deeply embedded within the book. God is at the center of everything Riley and her family does. Larissa Self has written an exciting, unpredictable story of living beyond survival. The book is difficult to put down, as Self makes the reader very curious as to what will happen next! A must read!!

When the news broke on television the beginning of this year about the corona virus hitting China I was blown away. The similarities of the trilogy I had recently finished amazed me. The type of pneumonia like virus, the place of origin, the deaths, the fear of airborne contagions, how it spread throughput Asia and Europe and air travelers unknowingly carrying the disease back to their countries including the United States. This was all in the first chapter! The book is very well written and a must read!

I have ADHD so reading books very hard for me, but this book kept me reading could not put the book down once I started. Loved the characters each and everyone except the two that got killed of course.
Starting on the second book of the series. Got to meet the author in person at our book club and she was great answering all of our questions about how she was inspired to write the 3 books.

I’m giving it a five star rating mainly because of the imagination, the characters, and the potential reality of the situation the novel is written around. At times, she is a bit too verbose , but other authors are as well and I just skip those parts inessential. But it was very difficult to put it down. Great read.

One fantastic read for a teenage girl or that aspiring outdoorsy Rambo mom. Very well written through all 3 stories...you can just almost see it being in a movie or you yourself as one of the characters. Someone please get this to a Hollywood agent...
Thanks...
