I live in Somerset with my wife Marti and Mitzi, a Welsh collie. Obviously they control everything and I am a mere hanger-on. Older than I look, I remember smoking on the shore as the Ark was being launched and thinking to myself, 'That folly will never float.' And, 'I ought to give these things up.' I have been described as 'an original thinker, with a battered energy and a dark but hopeful sense of humour'. Which is better than I could have come up with. That's pretty much it. I am always happy to chat and can be contacted at pbeere@sky.com. Buy my books, tell others, and we'll be friends for ever more.
Picked this up for £1 from an old bookshop where they’d sell anything. Thought l’d try some Sci-Fi. The book was the 2nd in the series so the beginning of this was hard to grasp. And the pacing throughout was so fast. One thing would happen, then another and another and another. Not one thing had exceptional detail other than the manner in which death was described.
Also as a part of not reading the 1st book of the series I found no reason to like the main character. Although in some high pressure scenarios he would have the occasional funny thought, I appreciated his self deprecating tone.
Decent book, probably worth a 4/5 should I have read book 1.
