This was so casually written and was so self focused on the author that it was a major turnoff. Nothing is backed up by evidence or studies. I have read multiple places that you should take oils internally and also that you shouldn't, this says you should but doesn't say why or counter argue those who disagree. This book is written mostly about the author herself, by the end you will know her salary, how hard working she is, and that she is a "momtrepreneur". Unfortunately, I feel I know more about her than about the history, use, or benefits of essential oils. But it was a quick read and there are some decent recipes for lifestyle stuff as well as diffusing.
CAUTION: When reading this book and taking advice for cooking with essential oils make sure to talk to a professional. Essential oils are not moderated like food products and can cause irritation to skin, esophagus, and stomach lining. Make sure to educate yourself and get good quality oils if you intend to use it this way. This book completely misses that step.
REVIEW: This book is poorly advertised. I picked up this beginners book to learn a bit about essential oils and their effects. However, this book is an authors self journey to positive realization. It's more of a poorly executed inspirational speech in my opinion. It's easy to read mostly because the information is so easy to digest, but it's easy to digest because people learn this through life experience and self discovery anyway. If you want to read about positivity then this is the book for you, but even its advice is easier said than done and kind of on the preachy side. It's subtitle speaks more to the book's content than the actual title. Also the recipes are lackluster and missing information I would have found vital such as how much carrier oil to dilute the oils into and how different water contents affect the aroma with its dilution (for different techniques of usage). Waste of money to buy, but if you intend on reading it, borrow it if you can at a library or something.
RECOMMENDATION I picked this up before realizing my mom had a book on hand. I started reading the other one and learnt more in the first few pages than I did with this. It's called:
The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy: Over 800 natural, Nontoxic, and Fragrant Recipes to Create Health, Beauty, and Safe Home and Work Environments by Valerie Ann Worwood
We own the 25th anniversary edition which is revised (probably updated) and expanded. And I absolutely love it. It's more professional and explains things that are understandable to beginners, but valuable for experienced practitioners. Haven't finished it yet, but highly valued. Priced well on several sites.
Overall disappointing. This wasn’t so much a beginners guide to how to use oils but more a beginners guide to what oils can be used for. I don’t need to know that oils can be used for sickness or depression or what have you. I need to know how to beat use oils for those things.
I know that I can use green products to clean my house. A whole chapter on this was kind of a waste of my time when it just tells me that I should do it without any real support to the why.
A couple of recipes that seem interesting to try, but not until I grow my oil collection. As a beginner I need more basic single oil uses as I can’t afford to go out and buy the 3 dozen oils used across all the various recipes.
Gaya penulisannya lebih fokus ke penulis ketimbang essential oil. Padahal judulnya adalah A Beginner's Guide to Essential Oils: Recipes and Practices for a Natural.
This is a great first book for those interested in essential oils. Easy to understand, straightforward information, and no boring research. This author takes a holistic approach: processes to lower stress, think more positively, etc. While that was encouraging information, I really appreciated the section that listed each essential oil and what it was best used for, in addition to the recipes at the back of the book with different diffuser blend recommendations. That alone made the book worthwhile.
This book is not about how to make essential oils, but is dominated by a stream of conscience narrative about why this rich white lady uses them. Yes, there are some recipes on how to add drops of essential oil to basic natural cleaning agents like baking soda and vinegar. I don’t think you need to page through someone’s diary to find that—use a search engine. Thank goodness I got this free through the library ebook app!
Very informative and a good entry resource into essential oils. My one real problem is about her approach to taking them orally. It needed a lot, and I mean a lot, more emphasis on the fact that some oils are not pure enough to be taken orally so caution needs to be taken. Other than that I look forward to trying some of the cleaning suggestions.
The book did not really teach me anything new as I am quite familiar with essential oils. In all fairness to the author, I believe that this is a wonderful resource for the "newbie" to essential oils.
This book is 100% amateur writing. How many times is she going to tell us she's a "momtreprenuer"? LoL There was nothing in this book that I didn't already know or hadn't already tried. 🤷🏾♀️🥱
