About the author

Mike M. Milstein was an influential educator, author, and leadership advocate whose career spanned decades in both the United States and New Zealand. He began as a social studies teacher before earning his PhD in educational administration from UC Berkeley. He held faculty and leadership positions at the University at Buffalo and the University of New Mexico, where he played a pivotal role in transforming educational leadership programs. Known for pioneering internship models and promoting practitioner-focused leadership training, Milstein emphasized real-world impact over traditional academic paths. He co-authored 13 books, including works on school resiliency written with his wife and collaborator, Doris Annie Henry.
