Rory Miller has in depth knowledge of Latin American economic history and this book has been very useful in my research to write my historical novel "The Titans of the Pacific." I strongly recommend reading Rory Miller's book to anyone interested in the history, economy and politics of Peru after independence from Spain and up to the Great Depression, with particular emphasis on the role of British companies and corruption in Latin America (an issue raised in my own novel and that, regretably, has plagued Latin America right up to the present day).
