Baba Sai agrees to help him provided Ice allows Sage Tiruvalluvar to speak through him to help souls understand the essence of life. Derived from the sages, this powerful spiritual read is about the wisdom of life and living, and understanding, accepting and seeking a higher purpose.
Some questions are warranting answers. All the time. Whether we are consciously asking for answers to them or not is subject to our ability to understand the world and its people. However that isn't possible unless we go through the teachings of the Guru. So here comes the book with spirituality and fiction meshed into different layers. There are answers to many and most of your questions about life, quality of living and death in this book that are explained through the teachings of Sage Thiruvalluvar extrapolated along with that of Shirdi Sai Baba with the dose of Irashaw Cawas Engineer's (Ice) own critical digs on the world of today. ICE with very unusual Spirits by Ruzbeh N Bharucha is surely an unusual book.
People shun spirituality, thinking it is about religion. Spirituality has no religious significance. In fact, religion is just a tool through which people can understand what they are undergoing. This is the dominant theme that is shown in the book and espoused by ICE, the world renowned painter. His relationship with his Guru, Shri Sai Baba throws light on the relationship of teacher and student, showing how easy is it to ask, "is the teacher good and willing to teach" however, the question should be "does the student deserve that Guru"?
Numerous questions are asked throughout the book that common man thinks or questions today. Some questions might tend to run on a repetitive mode, however there's an attempt to differentiate all the concepts that sound similar. Hence, the questions seem to look repetitive. The thoughts of the teachings by the Sage are balanced with the contemporary world that ICE tries to make the spirits understand. This makes it less preachy way of taking the teachings forward.
Brought out by Penguin Ananda, an imprint of Penguin Random House, this book has simple language and conversationalist style of talking about spiritual concepts. Those who want answers to varied questions in simple manner this book is a good way to start. Also the fiction story format makes it easier to begin reading the 'spiritual' and 'well-being' genre.
I found this book very repetitive and boring, story is created just for the sake of it. These two stars are for the teachings but for a person who has read spiritual literature, it seems primitive. Might be a good introductory book for those getting into spirituality.
P.S.- Albeit, the review has nothing to do with my faith or how I perceive Mystics, saints mentioned and lessons imparted in the book.
This book is a spiritual fiction. The author has very nicely combined life lessons by Sage Thiruvalluvar, Sai Baba of Shirdi with the story of ICE and Ayesha. it's a very well written plot with an unexpected ending. I would definitely recommend it to all those who like spiritual fiction. if this may be your first book in this genre then you must definitely give it a go!
The book starts strong and finishes well — it really pulls you in. The story is engaging and has a lot of heart. However, the philosophical parts felt a bit stretched out and slowed the pace at times. Still, overall, it’s a good and meaningful read.
