This volume was full of readable stories. It entered an altogether different level after I passed the midpoint. Afterwards I came across several stories that made an almost white-hot impression upon me. They were: 1. Serena Ulibarri's 'A Chorus of Shadows' 2. Angela L. Lindseth's 'My Last Sixteen Hours' 3. Bill W. James' 'The Water Horse' 4. Taylor Foreman-Niko's 'Unseelie Things' 5. John R. Fultz's 'The Veneration of Evil in the Kingdom of Ancient Lies' 6. Cody Goodfellow's 'Livingstone'. Primarily because of the last two prose pieces, this volume becomes really special. In fact, it has become almost necessary to track single-author collections penned by some of these writers, such has been their impact. Recommended.
This is, so far, my favorite issue of the rebooted Weirdbook. It has a wonderfully bizarre cover painting (then again, I am partial to cephalopods), excellent interior art, as always, and a great collection of stories and poems -- a nice variety that includes a fairly generous amount of science fiction among the horror and fantasy material. An excellent issue!
This issue of Weirdbook is the best one yet! With such a variety of well-written stories, from horror, to dark fantasy, to sci-fi, or just plain weird, there's something here for everyone. Looking forward to more!
