Annie has a bizarre affliction. Every day she becomes convinced that this day is literally her last. Each day she then prepares to die, sometimes peacefully, sometimes miserably. Each evening she finally falls asleep, and then each morning she wakes up having forgotten the day before. Her adoptive mother Clara has recruited a cousin whom Annie has never met to help cope with this day-to-day disaster. The cousin, Ethan, a young man about Annie's own age, eventually begins to wonder if he himself is losing his mind, and then Annie's condition seems to worsen when she tells him she is now a ghost.
