Frequently (surprisingly!) witty and filled with enjoyable anecdotes, this antique volume was easier to read than I'd hoped. Unfortunately, I had been led to believe that the memories herein would concern Lackington's daily life as a bookseller (of London's legendary, long-gone Temple of the Muses); but while it shared his journey to becoming an avid reader and amateur purveyor of books, it did not deliver details about how he ran his shop. Four stars because it delivered on what it set out to be, with the fifth subtracted due to occasional unnecessary rambling.
Read this book if you want to partake in fun stories of a bygone England--but fair warning, this edition preserves the S's that look like F's! Takes some getting used to.
