The Bringer of Death: A Thriller

Rate this book
PJ Carpenter senses something odd in the rhythm of the terror world. For weeks, the veteran CIA paramilitary officer has been raising alarms that al Qaeda is up to something. The terror group has been unusually quiet. More troubling is the fact that its most lethal commander, a man known only as Mumeet—the Bringer of Death—has gone completely off the radar. But by the time US intelligence realizes that Carpenter’s instincts are on the mark, it may be too late. Pressured into action by its recently-named new leader, al Qaeda is already well on its way to a dramatic return to jihad operations. And Carpenter’s nemesis Mumeet will lead the first attack under the new strategy; one that will strike at the heart of the US homeland and two paragons of American culture.

With little else to go on, Carpenter is sent to Cairo to hunt down two mysterious men. As he travels from Egypt and on to South America gathering bits of intelligence, it becomes clear he is chasing Mumeet, and the terrorist is already inside the United States. Now Carpenter and the US government are running out of time to uncover the plot and stop the Bringer of Death before he unleashes the most devastating attacks on US soil since 2001.

THE BRINGER OF DEATH (3/16)
Michael Monahan
A self published 'thriller' written by a friend of Mike Junker.
A jihad dual attack on The Mall of America & the Super Bowl in Mpls. provides the tension.
Well done in many respects with a realistic but unsatisfying ending.

Terrific pacing. PJ Carpenter is a well-drawn protagonist. Loved the details and how the story moved across the globe. Great addition to the counter-terrorism genre.

This book is intense, descriptive and realistically thrilling all at the same time. I can't believe how quickly I was sucked in. I felt like I was physically present in every paragraph.

Not my normal genre, but once I got started I couldn't put it down. I needed to know how it ended.

I have read Thriller mystery books 40 plus years. Often they are from trusted old Friend Authors whose style I have Enjoyed

Then I will branch out and try a new Author and generally have been disappointed. Most dont do their due diligence or use shortcuts to publish.
This Author has obviously spent time and energy to make it realistic for my imagination to “see” the scene. The plot has twists which are fun to follow and a main character who I could sympathize with.

Highly recommend and look forward to the next installment (s)

Promising rookie book by new author Michael Monahan—maybe a little too much detail with respect to terrorism intelligence but I get the feeling he knows his stuff. I liked the protagonist PJ Carpenter and want to know him a little better. It really picked up steam towards the last third of the book and then it was hard to put down. Looking forward to the next one!

Well written book that sets the table for a very intriguing character in P.J. Carpenter as the lead. Loved set up.
