DEVIL BY THE TAIL

A pair of novellas featuring bounty hunter Lou Prophet. He's a hard drinking hard living bounty hunter who has a complicated relationship with a beautiful bounty hunter.

In the first adventure, the randy daughter of the governor of California falsely accuses Prophet of rape, another in a long history of such accusations. He runs out of town, to find himself embroiled in a feud.

In the second, he gets a letter from an old friend that he needs help. Upon hitting town, Prophet finds people trying to kill him, and another rancher feud.

Pretty good. Old fashioned, but with a modern twist.

I'm a western addict! After mainly reading William Johnstone and Louis Lamour, I was ready for someone new. Enter Lou Prophet and Peter Brandvold. A friend recommended I read this book, they have now moved to best friend status. Lou Prophet is a bounty hunter, but an old time gunslinger too. He believes in shoot first, ask questions next. There are two stories in this edition so you get a double dose of action. The stories were long enough to give you a thrill but short enough to read in one afternoon. I'm recommending Lou Prophet to the rest of my western loving friends.

TITLE: Stagecoach to Purgatory: The Violent Days of Lou Prophet, Bounty Hunter

AUTHOR: Peter Brandvold

GENRE: Western

PAGES: 285

I fell in love with westerns around fourteen years ago. Yes, this wonderful genre came to me late in life, I was in my 40’s, and I had just moved to upstate New York. Being the avid reader I am, I was in a store and saw a bunch of westerns at low prices and picked a few up. I then spent the next two years reading nothing but westerns. I say this because when I say that Peter Brandvold composes an excellent western full of everything the genre represents, I know what I am talking about.

In Lou Prophet, Mr. Brandvold has given us a western hero we can admire. Not because of a noble sense of right or wrong, or because he is the epitome of a good guy, where he is as pure as the driven snow. No, Lou Prophet is a hard drinking, quick shooting, fast loving man that fights through his flaws and rises to the top. He is the type of western hero I have the most fun reading, and yes, this book is fun with a capital “F”!

Stagecoach To Purgatory is actually two novellas brought together; LAST STAGE TO HELL and DEVIL BY THE TAIL. The best part, this book is number 19 in a series! Fear not you do not need to know what happened before to enjoy this book, and you are not bored to death with backstory. You get enough information is a short amount of time and the stories flow like the raging rapids.

I give this 5 bookmarks out of 5 and a need to read more Lou Prophet Stories!

This is book one in the "Violent Days of Lou Prophet" of a three book series. Enjoyed it just as much as Brandvold's "Rusty Spurr" novels. This is two separate stories. The first one Lou's on a stagecoach (basically on the run) and gets ambushed. The second story Lou and his partner (both bounty hunters) are called to bring in a murderer. Both stories are packed with enough action that you wouldn't want to put the book down.

Look forward to reading more about Lou and more from Brandvold.

You can never go wrong with the Prophet...

What can go wrong taking care of two young ladies on the trial? It's fun to know that the wild west Lion tamer has a heart. Great read ... Get on it!
Brandvold has got it all together.

Good Prophet Saga

Lots of shoot-em-up action in a typical Old West setting. A good measure of romance thrown in, too. Plus a few surprises.
