This is the best book ever for anyone who wants to train their herding dog. He goes into the psychology of the border collie, or heeler & teaches us why everyone says their dog does the opposite thing they want the dog to do. It is because we need to become the lead sheep & not the herder any longer. Once we change our role the dog is bred with their own instincts & will begin to do the correct movements because it knows where we want to bring the flock or individual. Changed my world, this book! I recommend it to anyone who asks me about training their dog to herd!

This book was a good introduction to herding, but it felt a bit unorganized and difficult to flip back and find certain sections. Everything is written in a narrative style, including the directions on herding. It's like your dad is trying to tell you how to do something over the phone and you have no idea what certain phrases and terms mean, you just have to hope you get it. Overall it was good and will be good supplemental reading, but it was not a one-and-done guide for raising a herding dog.

The first 3/4 of the book really focuses on choosing a dog, and doesn't delve into training techniques until the last 1/4. The information was helpful, but not worth reading in it's entirety.
