Love it! I've been looking for tatting patterns that are a little more interesting and less stuffy looking - this has some pretty almost art nouveau inspired pieces, and some "free tatting" instruction which I'm excited to try. It's not quite on par with the work I saw at the Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting exhibit, but it's getting closer.
Mary Konior is absolutely a tatting genius! Her pattern are the easiest to follow I have ever found! When I had first started tatting this was the only tatting book my tiny library had. I have since bought a copy so that others could enjoy the one copy available (since I kept checking it out). Patterns from beginner to advanced, beautifully illustrated and easy to understand.
This is a very good book. One that I use very often and wouldn't be without. It's to bad that there couldn't be a reprint of this book for all our other tatters.
A great book. No other Konior book uses this (visual, hence the title) notation method. Sadly, because it's a delight in ease of use. Most of the patterns in this book have stood the test of time, and all will look familiar in style for people who have seen more of Mary Konior's work. Included is a 2 page section on the basics of tatting, with small line drawings of how to make the stitch, rings and chains. A determined person might teach themselves off this information alone, but it's not the best teaching material available nowadays. However, if you've already mastered the basics, you're in for a treat: the book contains a large number of "know-how" sections that describe special techniques and tips. For instance the only reliable way I've ever encountered to open a closed ring. It also covers hiding ends, adding thread, and more such crucial things that are often glossed over. All in all this is a fantastic book. A must-have in every tatting collection.
