A prequel to the Brimstone and Blood short story series.
Demons are on the loose in a city-center high-rise; a perfect opportunity for demon-hunter trainee Cait Murphy to sharpen her skills.
She and her mentor, Simon, an experienced exorcist, arrive and find blood sigils painted on doors and hoodies with glowing eyes, what's going on?
They have to find out fast because peoples lives are at risk.
But demons aren’t Cait’s only problem, Simon's been urging her to learn the academic side of demon tracking, and he has a list of questions as long as your arm - if only she could get one right!
But books just aren’t her thing. She’d rather just hunt evil or evern better, go shopping.
Can Cait track the source of the demon outbreak and redeem herself to Simon?
This short is a prelude to the Brimstone and Blood short story series available now.
I received a copy of this novella for free directly from the author after downloading her debut novel, Demons. I have voluntarily chosen to review the book, and the gifting in no way determines my review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.
Oh WOW! What an excellent start to a new series - why hasn't anyone else read this? Who doesn't love a kickarse, if a little green, heroine ..... who's a demon hunter! The prequel can be read as a standalone and introduces us to the world of Cait Murphy, a trainee demon hunter who has ended up under the wing of Father Simon of the Metropolitan Cathedral, Glasgow. Cait is a Homalus, (don't call her that she HATES it!) a half- demon who is constantly fighting the demon side of herself to stay as human as possible. Father Simon, an exorcist for the Catholic Church of Scotland, is trying valiantly to train Cait for demon hunting via theory as well as practice. Cait, however, isn't really interested in the boring theory - signs, sigils, angels and level of demon etc - and would prefer to just get in there and get the job done. As bad as it sounds, the Church tend to use Homalus as "sniffer dogs" to find demons. This short story involves one case of theirs and how they go about solving it. I won't say anymore about the story itself as I'd love other people to discover the tale themselves with fresh eyes. For what is essentially a debut novella it is very well written and constructed with an enticing plot and characters that I'm just dying to know more about. Recommended for YA or NA lovers or those that love their urban fantasy/demon hunting genre. I'm so excited I found this series and I KNOW I'll go on to read the rest of the novellas.
An intriguing short prequel of the story of a half demon who tracks demons. In job training and with a priest for her handler, they were fighting a demon possession. Interesting with some action and suspense that motivated me to look for the next book.
A priest and his part-demon sidekick walk into a high-rise in a rough Glasgow neighbourhood... Let the smiting commence! The sidekick, Cait, makes for an exceptionally entertaining narrator. I have the main series already queued up.
