Dr. Gerald M. Phillips was a speech communication researcher. He was best known for his innovative approach to speech training for shy people
Phillips received his B.A. in Speech and Rhetoric, his M.S. in Speech and Speech Pathology, and his Ph.D. in Speech and Rhetoric from Western Reserve. In 1956, he became an instructor in speech at North Dakota Agricultural College. In 1958, he became an assistant professor of speech at the Washington State University. In 1964, he became an associate professor and then professor of speech communication at The Pennsylvania State University, where he helped design and implement the Penn State Reticence Program that taught students how to overcome the fear of speaking.
This book was very helpful for my small group communication class. It is very easy to follow along with and provides great advice for how to navigate small group dynamics.
