Trilobites

Rate this book
Long before dinosaurs roamed the earth, there were trilobites—one of the most striking animals to populate prehistoric seas and whose fossils are favorites among collectors today. From the giant trilobites of Newfoundland to fascinating new specimens from Morocco, Levi-Setti's magnificent book brings these "butterflies of the sea" to life for everyone curious about our remote past

This second edition features coverage of a greater variety of trilobites, an improved photographic atlas reorganized to present their evolutionary progression, and over 200 photographs.

Amazing book.

Packed with gorgeous black and white photographs, some of them showing very fine details due to painstaking sample preparation.

Trilobites endured for 350 million years until they were extinguished in the severe end-of-Permian event.

Figure 17 is particularly interesting in that it documents a severe decline in diversity long before the Permian extinction.

I read the library copy, but well worth buying.

Many thanks to the Blanche R. Yale endowment for providing a copy to the Milwaukee Public Library's Science Collection.

At the time I read this I remember thinking it was a great work. It seems like I was digging a lot in the Devonian of NY state in those days, although I came across this one while at in Tempe, AZ at ASU. Great book for the paleozoic fossil hounds out there especially for those into arthropoda, particularly Trilobita.
