It must be nice to have enough money to travel all over the world, and also get paid to write a book about it, and yet find little to nothing redeeming in any of the beautiful places or people you meet.

I've never read a travel book with so much complaining about EVERYTHING. Even in complimenting something, there will also come an insult not far behind. Sometimes in the same sentence.

In the situation our world is in today, with travel being so constricted, this book disgusts me in the way she belittles everything and everyone. Even someone who is supposed to be her friend is described as being 'a bit plumper than we remembered'. It gets sickening.

Her travels include Rome, Sicily, Pompeii, East Africa (safari), Greece, Spain, Sardinia, Corsica, and Elba.

I have other Ilka Chase books, and I think I will give one more a try, but if all of her writing is based on her looking down on things and them not measuring up to her standards, I'll pass.
