This is book three in the Tommy Rockford series. Almost on his way to join a mountain hiking party in the lovely state of Washington, Tommy receives a telegram from his buddy back home, Spud, telling him to call right away on urgent business. He is invited to go with Spud and his dad, a famous underwater film photographer, Gerlock, and Spanish historian Dr. Bonilla, to a island where the bones of the first explorer to discover California were supposedly buried!
At first he declines, but upon hearing Bonilla is already in CA he smells a rat-one of his Ham buddies in WA just talked to Bonilla the other day, when Spud and his dad were already meeting him in the US! And on top of that, the Dr. Bonilla there doesn't know a thing about Ham radio, when he is actually listed as an expert!
Pursuing this suspicion leads Tommy to one of the most intriguing plots to uncover a con job, and save the lives of his friends and himself in a terrifying game of hide and seek with the villains.
