This was my first introduction to Louis XIV and as such it definitely managed to give me a good overview. As I am generally a fan of Hatton's writing, I must say I got a little confused from time to time especially in the part explaining his mistresses, and she could've been a bit more thematically stringent as I felt she was jumping around a bit too much. But I acknowledge that she was restrained by the format and intention of the book. Nonetheless, a good read entirely done on the toilet over several months 👍

From the Naz library from 1972. Good info, but a bit dryly formatted.
